Arsenal goes against the norm to get star player to sign new deal, his high levels of fitness has blown Arteta away
Arsenal have opened contract talks with Belgian attacker Leandro Trossard over a new deal that will extend his stay at the club to 2029, according to the Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old has only a year left on his current contract, but there is a one-year extension clause in it, and the Gunners now want to offer him a fresh three-year deal.
It is not the norm for Arsenal to hand players aged over 30 long-term contracts, but his high levels of fitness in terms of longevity contributed to the offer of the lengthy proposed deal.
The ball is now in Trossard’s court as he is also exploring a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer once again after Al Ittihad tabled a verbal proposal in the region of €35 million last September.
Moving to the Gulf country will earn the Arsenal star the chance to play regularly and also bag a final lucrative contract, but remaining with the North London club and committing almost the remainder of his career to them could see him win the Premier League and Champions League.
The Gunners have been linked with interest in Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams, and signing him could see the Belgian move on as his chances of starting more games will likely take a hit with the arrival of the Spaniard.
Trossard has started 26 Premier League games and six Champions League games this term after 18 league starts last term, and while he has been a very dependable member of the squad, he will not be guaranteed regular chances next term if Kai Havertz gets back and Gabriel Jesus returns to form.
Retaining the services of such a valuable attacker is a huge boost in terms of quality squad depth, and convincing him to sign an extension will be huge for Arsenal.
