Arsenal tipped to sign 13-goal winger as contract talks pause with Euro club - Journalist

Arsenal are one of the clubs credited with an interest in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane on a free transfer this summer.

The Germany international was close to signing a new long-term deal with Bayern earlier this year, but talks have stalled with the change of representative.

Sane recently hired super-agent Pini Zahavi, and as things stand, Bayern chief Max Eberl won’t offer an improvement on the previous salary on the table.

Reputed journalist Christian Falk has now revealed that Sane could be Premier League-bound.

Arsenal had already been in contact with the player’s former agent. Alongside the Gunners, Newcastle United have joined the pursuit of the versatile ace.

Sane has his sights on playing Champions League football next term. If things don’t work out at Bayern, his clear focus is on England and ‘preferably London’.

The Magpies are a ‘good alternative’ for the winger whose contract expires on June 30.

Sane to Arsenal speculation could be agent-driven

The 29-year-old started the season as a regular substitute under manager Vincent Kompany. He has become a regular starter from the left wing in recent months.

Sane has registered 13 goals and five assists from 43 appearances. He has averaged just 54 minutes per appearance since Kompany took charge as the head coach.

Bayern still continue to rate him highly, but a disagreement over contract terms could pave the way for a free transfer. Arsenal have been named as suitors, but it could be agent-driven.

Sane turned 29 earlier this year. He has stayed almost injury-free this campaign, but Arsenal’s hierarchy could prefer a younger profile with room for development.

The Schalke 04 graduate already earns £245,000 per week at Bayern. We would be surprised if Arsenal pay a similar salary on top of a significant signing-on fee.

Instead, they should focus on landing Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. The Spaniard has a £50 million release clause on his contract, but his wages could be on the higher side.

The 22-year-old has 18 goal contributions from the left wing this term despite multiple niggles. He earns £170,000 per week and could be persuaded to join for a £250,000 weekly package.

An alternative could be Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. Arsenal are admirers of the Ghanaian attacker, who can operate from the left or right wing. He is a two-footed wide player.

Semenyo, who has bagged 11 goals and seven assists this season, could cost a similar figure as Williams. Personal terms may not prove an issue. He earns £50,000 per week salary at the Cherries.

In our view, the Gunners should swoop for either Williams or Semenyo instead of Sane, who could be past his prime soon. It would not prove a worthwhile investment for the club.
