“Show our best version” – Arteta discusses how Arsenal can overcome PSG
Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal can overcome Paris Saint-Germain and reach the final of the Champions League.
The Gunners trail by one goal after Ousmane Dembele scored early in the first leg. The Spaniard has underlined his team’s desire and focus to turn things around in France.
“Huge enthusiasm, huge energy,” Arteta said. “We are a win away from being the Champions League semi-final, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world against a great opponent – it does not get much better than that.
“We are here to make history, and we have a big opportunity. We bring a result that gives us so much clarity about what we have to do.
“A lot of learning from the first leg as well, and how small the margins are between the two teams. The result should have been very different to that one.”
When asked if this is the biggest match of his career, Arteta gave a very clear and honest reply.
“Yeah, one of the most beautiful, for sure,” Arteta added. “I mean, again, one win away from being in the final. We cannot ask for anything else.
“Let us not do the talking [now], let us do it tomorrow on that pitch when the game starts. Show our best, best, best, best version and win the game.”
Pressure to win and injury boosts
Arteta has been criticised for failing to win silverware over the past few seasons. However, he believes they can snap that streak this term.
“We are going to try to do this season,” Arteta said. “Winning trophies as well is about being in the right moment, in the right place.
“Liverpool have won the title with fewer points than we have in the last two seasons. With the points of the last two seasons, we would have two Premier League titles.
“So, you have to be in the right moment, in the right place. Hopefully, here we are in the right moment, in the right place in Paris tomorrow, to earn the right to be in the final.”
The manager also gave a promising update on the fitness of Riccardo Calafiori, who has been out since the last international break. He could feature in Paris.
Arteta also confirmed he will assess Jurrien Timber, who was not in the squad against Bournemouth over the weekend.
