What Berta has now been constantly telling Arsenal star in recent days amid what just happened at Liverpool
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has intensified contract talks with William Saliba in recent days, telling the centre-back to commit his future to the club, according to French outlet L’Équipe.
The 24-year-old Gunners star is out of contract in the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid are monitoring his situation as they prepare for a potential swoop.
Berta knows how the La Liga club operate from his time with Atletico Madrid, and he wants to stop them from luring Saliba away from the North London club as they have done with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The England international announced news of his summer departure earlier this week and is expected to join Madrid on a free in the coming days after they courted him for several months, and they have been trying to do the same with the Frenchman.
Los Blancos are hoping Saliba will not sign an extension with Arsenal so as to get him at a cheaper price next summer or for free in the summer of 2027 having landed the services of Kylian Mbappe the same way last summer upon the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
To prevent that from happening, Berta opened contract extension talks with Saliba several weeks ago, and those exchanges have now ramped up in recent days ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Italian will hope he can convince the defender and the likes of Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard to sign new deals, and it was recently reported that he has already succeeded with the English forward following talks.
Winning the Champions League this season will be a huge boost for Arsenal in their bid to convince Saliba to remain at the club beyond the summer of 2027, and the result of the second-leg of the semi-final tie against PSG tonight could go a long way in determining his future.
