Three Sporting CP stars Arsenal could sign this summer including £51m winger
Arsenal are anticipated to be busy during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have performed below expectations in the Premier League this term. They are yet to be assured of the second spot amid their inconsistent form.
The club still have plenty to play for. They trail 1-0 after the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain and will be eyeing a comeback.
Regardless, there will be a huge spending summer spree. Arsenal could do business with Sporting CP and have already been linked with multiple players at the Lisbon giants.
Here are three players Arsenal could sign from Sporting CP.
Viktor Gyokeres
The Sweden international has been in extraordinary form this campaign. He has netted 52 goals and provided 12 assists from just 49 appearances in all competitions for Sporting CP.
The Gunners have a ‘strong’ interest in pursuing his signature and reports in Portugal claim that the club are best placed to recruit him ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 26-year-old has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting CP for £60m. Sporting director Andrea Berta is a big admirer, and Gyokeres could be one of Arsenal’s first summer signings.
Gyokeres would be a clear upgrade on Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. He has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 29 percent and should help the Gunners be on the winning side rather than drawing games
Arsenal may need to be wary of Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United. The Red Devils could provide stiff competition in the pursuit if they qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
Francisco Trincao
The 25-year-old has transformed his career since his move to Lisbon from Barcelona, initially on loan.
The Portuguese can play on the left wing, right wing or as a second striker. He has been most effective from the right flank this campaign, registering nine goals and 18 assists.
Arsenal scouts have closely monitored Trincao in recent months. The Gunners are one of three Premier League clubs prepared to land his signature later this year.
The forward has a release clause worth £51m in his deal but could be signed for less. Arsenal could see him as a quality backup out wide. He could play as a false nine too.
He would fit nicely into manager Mikel Arteta’s plans. He likes to engage and win regular duels. He has superb dribbling skills and would add more depth and quality in attack.
Ousmane Diomande
The Gunners have held a long-term interest in the Ivory Coast international. He was a top target during his time at FC Midtylland, but Sporting CP beat them to his signature.
Since then, the 21-year-old has been linked on countless number of occasions. Arsenal have not made an approach, but Defensa Central claim that it could happen this summer.
The outlet suggest that the Gunners could step up their pursuit of the centre-back with a £68m release clause if William Saliba makes a surprise switch to Real Madrid.
Diomande had a tremendous start to his Sporting CP career before a notable dip. He has a passing accuracy of 94 percent this campaign with 60 percent of his duels won.
However, he has been prone to defensive errors, conceding four penalties in all competitions. Despite the early hype, the 21-year-old may not be up to the Gunners’ standard.
In our view, Arsenal are more likely to sign Gyokeres or Trincao. We don’t anticipate Saliba to push for an exit. The Madrid talk could be agent-driven to secure him an improved deal.
