Arteta drops key update on Arsenal star’s future amid exit rumours
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is confident that William Saliba is committed to the club despite reports linking him to Real Madrid.
The French international has been the subject of transfer speculation, with Madrid reportedly showing strong interest.
However, Arteta believes he is content at Arsenal and wants to continue playing in London.
“Those things are more for Andrea (Berta) and the club to talk about,” Arteta said.
“What I am certain, because I had the conversation with him, is that he is so happy here, that he wants to continue with us.
“What will happen in the future with our negotiations and things that have to take time and process and be on top of them, but I am quite confident that William is very happy here.”
The Spanish manager’s comments come after a disappointing week for the Gunners.
After Liverpool sealed the Premier League title, Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners will now shift their focus back to the league as they face Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
Arteta issues injury update on three key players
Arteta also provided updates on the injury status of key players, including Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho.
“Yeah, Calafiori is out, Jorginho is still out,” Arteta added. “Jorginho’s got a bit more complicated than expected.
“Thankfully, he is fine – he is feeling good, he is recovering well, but yeah, it was a bit more than what we wanted. I think I will leave it to the doctor if he wants to clarify or judge that.”
On the potential return of Kai Havertz before the end of the season, the Arsenal boss remained hopeful.
“I think so,” he said. “I think if everything goes the way it is going at the moment and the way it is planned, I think he will have a chance to play a few games here in the season.”
Arsenal will be looking to finish the Premier League season strongly and maintain their momentum going into the final fixtures.
