Arsenal vs PSG: Three quiet threats that could decide the Champions League semi-final
Arsenal must overcome an in-form Paris Saint-Germain side to reach the Champions League final.
The Gunners finished third in the newly introduced league-style format and subsequently eased effortlessly into the last four.
PSG needed to navigate the play-off round to reach the knockout phase, but have looked impressive since then.
They have defeated three Premier League clubs on their way to the semi-finals and will fancy their chances of repeating the trick against Arsenal.
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele have formed a strong attack partnership. Luis Enrique’s side has scored 30 goals in the competition to date.
Although most of the praise has gone to their forwards and midfielders, PSG are also strong defensively. Here are three understated threats to Arsenal’s ambitions.
Willian Pacho
The Ecuadorian centre-back joined PSG in 2024 and has quickly become a key figure. He is calm on the ball and has a remarkable 93.79 percent pass accuracy.
Despite being a defender, he helps PSG play confidently out from the back. With Thomas Partey suspended, Arsenal may start with Mikel Merino in midfield.
Arsenal could line up a front three of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka. Trossard, likely to play as a false nine, will have difficulty getting past Pacho.
Nuno Mendes
Mendes has been one of the best left-backs in the Champions League this season. He was superb against Liverpool, completely shutting down Mohamed Salah.
Mendes has scored four goals and provided two assists in the competition. His energetic forward runs are a serious danger to any team.
If Arsenal’s wingers are not alert, Mendes could easily create overloads and hurt them. His mix of defensive strength and attacking runs makes him a complete full-back.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
Donnarumma has been one of PSG’s most reliable performers throughout this European run. He made key saves against Liverpool and was the hero in their penalty shoot-out.
He showed his quality again by making several big saves against Aston Villa. The Italian has kept four clean sheets in the Champions League this season.
He has been solid and consistent, often stepping up when it matters most. With Arsenal’s attack in strong form, Donnarumma’s influence could be decisive again.
