"Expected to return": Arsenal poised to make offer to sign £39m star with 19-goal/assist tally - report

0 1

Arsenal could have a busy summer transfer window after a frustrating Premier League campaign.

The Gunners are on course to finish runners-up in the league for the third straight season.

Manager Mikel Arteta could demand marquee signings, and the focus could be on the attack.

An elite striker could be signed, while the club could also pursue a versatile forward.

RMC Sport now claim that the Gunners are ‘expected to return‘ for Chelsea playmaker Christopher Nkunku, having initially expressed interest during the winter transfer window.

The Frenchman is back in the squad for Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Everton today, but he has reached a ‘point of no return’ and is anticipated to leave the Blues this summer.

The Gunners are likely to face competition from Bayern Munich for his services.

Arsenal must avoid purchasing Nkunku from Chelsea

The 27-year-old was one of the most sought-after forwards during his time at RB Leipzig in Germany.

Chelsea secured his signature ahead of Arsenal and many others in 2023 with an advanced agreement.

However, things have not gone as planned for Nkunku. He had an injury-plagued debut campaign at the club.

His second season has been decent. He has 14 goals and five assists from 42 appearances for the Blues.

However, just five goal contributions have come in the top-flight, where he has managed less than 1,000 minutes.

Nkunku can play across the attack, but appears to be a lost figure at the Blues with a lack of confidence

The attacker has squandered 14 big chances this term, eight against much inferior opposition in the Conference League.

The £39 million-rated star has 19 goal contributions this season, but he has looked out of depth in the Premier League.

Arsenal must avoid considering a summer approach for the Paris Saint-Germain graduate.
