Arteta sets specific condition for Arsenal's midweek Palace test!

0 1

Mikel Arteta is calling for full focus from his players as Arsenal prepare to face Crystal Palace on Wednesday, just six days before hosting Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals.

With the Premier League title now virtually out of reach, Arsenal’s domestic ambitions have taken a back seat to European glory. However, Arteta insists there is no room for compromise in either front.

“We have to earn the right to win tomorrow,” he said during Tuesday’s press conference at Sobha Realty Training Centre. “Palace are tough, especially away. That’s our only focus.”

Even with one eye on the visit of PSG, Arteta refused to entertain the idea of resting key players unnecessarily.

“If the players are fit and emotionally ready, they have to play,” he said. “The rhythm and decision-making only come from playing.”

Bukayo Saka remains in contention despite receiving treatment after a heavy challenge last weekend. Arteta downplayed concerns, describing the issue as “nothing too serious” and confirming the winger “has a good chance” of featuring.

However, Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho will miss the match. The latter could be sidelined for several weeks with what Arteta called a “scary situation”.

Squad depth remains a concern as Arsenal juggle a congested schedule with limited rotation options. “We’re really short in numbers,” Arteta admitted. “We don’t have that many options.”

Despite the limited personnel, Arteta hinted at potential tactical tweaks. Thomas Partey remains unavailable in Europe due to suspension, opening the door for further midfield experimentation. Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has impressed at left-back, was name-checked as a possible solution in midfield.

Gabriel Martinelli, fresh from netting his 50th Arsenal goal and contributing against Ipswich Town, was praised for his consistency and leadership. “He’s on the right path. His work ethic is top,” Arteta said.

He also reserved glowing words for Martin Odegaard, calling his weekend display “exceptional” after a challenging season.

Asked about Liverpool potentially securing the title should Arsenal lose, Arteta brushed off the implications. “Our incentive is to win. The rest, we can’t control.”

Palace, who face Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, are expected to rotate heavily. But Arteta warned against underestimating Oliver Glasner’s side, commending the “clear identity” and “tough mentality” instilled by the Eagles’ boss.

With Arsenal unbeaten in 11 matches across all competitions, momentum remains key. And while PSG looms large on the horizon, Arteta’s message is clear: the job is not done yet.
