2 dribbles, 5 chances created: £46m Arsenal star is finding form at right time, stole the show vs Fulham
Arsenal registered a 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
The Gunners had a slow start against the Cottagers at the Emirates Stadium.
Marco Silva’s side were brilliant defensively, and it took a slice of luck to break the deadlock.
Jurrien Timber and Ethan Nwaneri combined well on the right flank. The latter delivered a pass for Mikel Merino, who opened the scoring with a deflection in the 37th minute.
The Gunners created plenty of goalscoring opportunities after the break. They eventually doubled their lead in the 73rd minute. Bukayo Saka scored just seven minutes into his injury comeback.
Merino delivered a sublime cross for Gabriel Martinelli who flicked the ball into Saka’s path. The England international had an easy header at the far post to put the Gunners 2-1 ahead.
Rodrigo Muniz scored a late consolation goal for the visitors, but the scenario could have been different. The Brazilian squandered a clear-cut chance before stoppage time.
There were many top performers for Arsenal, but Martinelli was the stand-out from the left wing.
The Brazilian star had the better of Timothy Castagne with his dribbling and direct running. He registered an assist and should have had another. Martin Odegaard fluffed his lines.
The £46 million-rated star created five chances with two dribbles won. It was definitely his best performance in a long time in the Gunners shirt.
Arsenal fans should be pleased as they need Martinelli, Merino and Saka firing up front ahead of the Champions League quarter-final ties against Real Madrid this month.
Los Blancos have looked defensively vulnerable over the past few games. The Gunners require a positive result in the first leg at the Emirates with a goal advantage or two.
