European Aquatics Women Water Polo Championship Funchal 2026: Information bulletin now available
The official information bulletin for the women’s 2026 European Water Polo Championships is now available. The 21st edition of the tournament is set to take place from 26 January to 5 February and a link to the document can be found at the end of this article.
The 2026 Women’s European Water Polo Championships will mark a historic moment as the competition arrives in Portugal for the very first time.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Funchal, Madeira, the event will take place at the state-of-the-art Funchal Olympic Pools Complex, offering world-class facilities and an unforgettable atmosphere.
As European Aquatics President Antonio Silva states in his welcoming notes for the bulletin, Madeira’s natural beauty and warm hospitality make it the perfect setting for this prestigious tournament.
Mr Silva also added, ‘The successful staging of previous European and World age-group water polo championships in Funchal further highlights the city’s and island’s suitability for hosting an event of this magnitude.’
With 16 of Europe’s finest national teams competing – Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Italy, France, Great Britain, Croatia, Portugal, Romania, Germany, Türkiye, Serbia, Switzerland, Israel, and Slovakia – fans can look forward to seeing the very best athletes competing on the grandest of stages.
The Championships promise “countless remarkable moments” both for those in attendance and for audiences following across the continent. The new competition format will also add an extra layer of excitement, ensuring entertaining matches from the opening day, right the way through to the final.
As FPN President Miguel Arrobas states in the bulletin, Portugal aims to “organise the best European Championships,” building on the nation’s growing passion for water polo and inspiring the next generation of players.
