Sports briefs: San Marin water polo teams repeat as tournament champs

The San Marin High boys and girls water polo teams both went 2-0 on Saturday to win the Battle of the Sans tournament against San Rafael and host San Domenico. Both Mustangs teams won this event in 2024.

The San Marin girls were led by Dani Jaime-Coehlo and Reese Cordero who scored seven goals each on the day as the Mustangs (7-2) secured a 19-10 win against San Rafael and a 16-6 victory against San Domenico. Hazel Loskutoff added six goals for the Mustangs.

San Domenico avenged a Friday night loss to San Rafael with a 7-6 win on Saturday. Yeva Korsak scored the winning goal in overtime. Sanne Kostecki had six goals across two games for San Domenico while Kayla Li had four goals. Goalie Frances Kramer had double-digit blocks in both games.

San Rafael’s Alex Markwick scored eight goals across two games to lead the Bulldogs.

The San Marin boys got nine goals apiece from Brogan Corridan and Beckett Corridan en route to a 20-21 win against San Rafael and a 22-9 victory against San Domenico. Daniel Volker added eight goals for the Mustangs (7-4).

San Rafael secured a 12-10 win against San Domenico. Charlie Bussi led the way with seven goals for the Bulldogs across the two games. San Domenico’s Finn MacDonald led all tournament scorers with 10 goals.

  • The Redwood boys team picked up three wins at the S&R Sport Cup Tournament in Irvine this weekend after dropping its first game 9-7 to Crean Lutheran on Friday. The Giants (8-4) scored a 10-8 win against Bellarmine College Prep on Friday then posted a 12-6 win against Alta Loma and a 14-10 victory against Portola on Saturday.

Girls volleyball

Emmeline Sandgren had 25 assists, eight kills, four digs, and two blocks as Tam took down Archie Williams 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 on Friday night. The Red-tailed Hawks (14-5, 2-1 MCAL) had 10 kills from Natalie Stanford, eight from Makayla Scheffer, and seven from Eva Hart. Jade-Curtin-Savala had 15 digs, followed by Annie Payne with 10 and Stanford with nine. Ayla Elliott had four blocks against the Peregrine Falcons (11-6, 0-3).

  • Rania Brody had 32 assists and Grayson Swank added 10 kills and three aces for Marin Catholic in a 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 win against Novato (8-9, 0-3) on Friday. Eden Cisneros added seven kills and 10 digs for MC (13-3, 2-0).
  • Branson (10-4, 2-1) picked up a 25-11, 25-7, 25-10 win against Terra Linda (15-7, 1-2) on Friday night.

Field hockey

Marin Catholic scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 league win against University on Friday. The Wildcats (8-2-2, 6-2-2) went to a tournament on Saturday, picking up a 1-0 win against Davis Sr. and a 2-1 win against Chico.

Flag football

Terra Linda (6-4) picked up its second consecutive win, posting an 18-14 victory against Washington on Saturday.

Women’s volleyball

College of Marin split a pair of games Friday, defeating Gavilan 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 before being swept by Lassen, 25-18, 25-9, 25-12. Elle Dickson led the Mariners (7-8) with nine kills while Madeleine Butler and Zillah Landrum both had eight. Maia Cruz (21 assists, 11 digs) and Meagan Lee (13 assists, 10 digs) both had double doubles.
