Venue and date confirmed for women’s 2025 European water polo Super Cup final
The second week of October will offer a feast of Super Cup water polo action, as the women’s final between Spain’s Sant Andreu and Dutch side ZV De Zaan will be played on Sunday 12th October, just four days after the men’s contest.
While the men’s Super Cup final will feature the two most decorated teams in the competition’s history – FTC-Telekom and Pro Recco – whoever wins the women’s title shall write history, as both Sant Andreu and De Zaan will compete for this trophy for the first time.
The women’s Super Cup final will take place in Barcelona, where Champions League winners Sant Andreu will aim to become the second Spanish club, after Sabadell, to lift the famous trophy.
Euro Cup winners De Zaan will become the first Dutch side to participate in the prestigious event, which was first contested in 2006 and will be held for the 19th time this year.
Only clubs from the other five leading nations (Spain, Greece, Italy, Hungary and Russia) have previously earned the right to play for the Super Cup, now De Zaan has added the Netherlands to that list.
Sant Andreu might be the favourites to triumph and keep the trophy on Spanish soil, but the women’s Super Cup finals have seen a few upsets over the years, as the Euro Cup victors have surprised the Champions League winners on five occasions.
