Istanbul to Host U16 European Water Polo Championships
In late June and early July, Istanbul will welcome the participating teams of the U16 European Water Polo Championships. Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will be held in Türkiye, with matches taking place in the country’s largest city on back-to-back weeks.
European Aquatics has approved the request of the Türkiye Water Polo Federation to relocate both the Men’s and Women’s U16 European Water Polo Championships to Istanbul. Initially, Manisa was set to host the events, but the federation opted to bring them to Istanbul instead.
The tournaments will take place consecutively. According to the official schedule, the women’s competition will run from 27 June to 3 July, followed by the men’s event from 7 to 13 July.
Istanbul has hosted numerous prestigious European Aquatics events, and water polo continues to gain momentum in Türkiye. Just weeks ago, an all-Turkish final was played in the Women’s Challenger Cup in Istanbul, where Izmir edged out Galatasaray to claim the title.
Now, it’s time for the best U16 players to take the stage in Istanbul, and fans can expect thrilling matches right from the start in both championships.
