Sports Briefs: Redwood water polo knocks off top-ranked Campolindo

Ossie Joplin scored three of his team-high five goals in the first period to help stake Redwood High to an early lead Tuesday as the Giants held off Campolindo 14-13 in a potential boys water polo playoff preview. The Giants, ranked second in the North Coast Section, led the entire game, but were never able to shake the top-ranked Cougars, who got five goals during a fourth-period rally effort from sophomore Will Maguy.

Sawyer Goldberg netted four goals for the Giants, who got three scores from freshman Storm Jackson and two from Maddox McClellan. Redwood (14-1, 5-0 MCAL) has a rivalry game on Thursday with Archie Williams, ranked third in the NCS. Redwood beat San Marin, 16-8, on Monday.

  • Freshmen Jasper Feldman and Pasch Campbell-Viznich each scored four goals and senior Bern Kent added four more with three assists as host Tam beat Marin Catholic, 19-4, Monday. Reed Hanna added three goals for Tam (5-3, 2-2 MCAL) while the defense was provided by Andrew Sternfels, Declan Murphy and Feldman, who each notched three steals. Tam hosts Terra Linda Wednesday in a key league game. In other action Monday, Terra Linda beat Marin Academy 11-7.

Girls water polo

Gabby Reichley scored a game-high six goals to lead Marin Academy past Terra Linda, 12-2, on Monday. Hannah Reichley and Kelly Kurtzig scored 2 goals each for the Wildcats (11-3, 4-0 MCAL). Cece Dickinson led the Marin Academy with three steals and Caroline Starrett had 14 saves in goal. In other MCAL games Monday, Redwood beat San Marin 17-7, and Tam beat Marin Catholic 12-4.

Girls tennis

Tam High won a pair to tiebreakers in doubles play to secure a 5-2 victory over San Marin on Tuesday. The Red-tailed Hawks’ No. 1 pair of Maria-Jose Stuart and Sophia Tiemens rallied 4-6, 6-1 (10-6) past the Mustangs’ Aashna Selvaraj and Catania De Keyrel. Tam’s No. 2 duo of Amalie Stoker and Louise McGinness won 4-6, 6-4 (10-3) against San Marin’s Julieta Exberger and Divya Lourdu.

  • Redwood High’s Jordan Marotto edged the Branson School’s Mirabel Arlander at the top of the singles ladder to highlight the Giants’ 5-2 victory over the Bulls on Tuesday. Marotto win 4-6, 6-2 (10-0). The Giants’ Gwenn Ricordel won at No. 4 singles and the Giants swept doubles play. The Bulls got singles wins from Katie Warrin and Audrey Gilmore.
  • Terra Linda swept the visitors from Novato High, 7-0, on Tuesday. The Trojans’ Kylie Lee beat the Hornets’ Annah Chang, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Terra Linda also got singles wins from Jamie Schmidt, Chloe Sason and Mimi Kemp.

Girls golf

Marin Academy’s Elsa Anderson took home medalist honors with a 45 and teammate Sterling Colpitts added a 14-0ver 50 at Peacock Gap on Tuesday as the Wildcats (203) beat Bay (225) and Urban (257). Marin Academy (9-4, 9-2 BCL) is scheduled to play rival San Domenico on Thursday at Peacock Gap.

  • Redwood High’s Taylor Bridges and Katherine Lim shot matching 36s at Mill Valley Golf Course to lead the Giants (1520 past host Tam (218) and Novato (243) in Monday’s three-way match. Redwood rounded out its card with a 38 from Katelyn Van Duysen and 42 from Maddy Lim. Tam was led by Alessia Ducati (50) and Alex Forbes (52). Novato was paced by Haley Picetti (51) and Shasa Lelandowski (61).

Women’s golf

Dominican University ended its fall season with a fifth-place finish in the Westmont Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara. Ellexis Mingming led Dominican opening with 10 pars in the first round on the way to an 8-over 80. She followed up improving in her second round by a stroke to tie for seventh at 15 over, a single stroke out of the top-5. Faith Guevara also started with a 80 but slowed some in the second round shooting an 84 to finish 15th, 3 strokes ahead of golfers from Westmont and Menlo.

Westmont won the team championship at 62 over par while Point Loma and Westminster tied for second at 66 over. The Penguins finished at 93 over par to top Occidental by eight strokes in the final round of play.

Men’s golf

Daniel Marmorstein led Dominican University to a sixth place finish at the Westmont Invitational after Tuesday’s final round at Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara. Westmont won the team championship at 10 over par with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in second at 13 over. The Penguins finished at 30 over par to top PacWest foe Chaminade by 11 strokes.

Field hockey

Veronica Ray scored with an assist from Rowie Scobie as Tam played University to a 1-1 tie on Monday. Junior goalie Larkin Archibald had four saves.
