Water polo: Archie Williams, Marin Academy land top playoff seeds

Both the boys and girls water polo teams from Archie Williams High and Marin Academy are projected to make successful postseason runs as the North Coast Section released playoff brackets on Sunday.

All four programs are seeded first and received byes into the quarterfinals with Archie Williams sitting atop Division I while Marin Academy headlines Division II.

The Archie Williams girls (17-7) are coming off an unbeaten regular season in the MCAL, followed by a victory in the league’s title game having defeated the hosts at Marin Academy on Saturday.

The Peregrine Falcons are one of two girls teams and five boys teams from Marin that were seeded highly enough to secure a first-round bye. No. 8 James Logan and No. 9 California battle it out on Thursday for the right to face Archie Williams on Saturday.

The Marin Academy girls (23-3), whose only MCAL losses this season came against Archie Williams, could face No. 8 Terra Linda in a Saturday quarterfinal. The Trojans (12-10) face No. 9 Alhambra at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at MA.

The Archie Williams boys (17-12) finished second in the MCAL and made it to the title game, falling to fourth-seeded Redwood in overtime. The Peregrine Falcons come in seeded ahead of No. 3 Redwood and No. 4 Tam in the D-I playoffs. All three teams have first round byes.

Terra Linda is also in D-I and comes in seeded eighth. The Trojans (15-7) travel to face No. 9 California for a 4 p.m. game Thursday at Las Lomas High.

The Marin Academy and Novato boys teams secured byes in the D-II playoffs and could be on a collision course as the top two seeds.

The Wildcats (12-9) await the winner between No. 8 Alhambra and No. 9 Clayton Valley Charter.

Novato (12-9) could see crosstown rival San Marin in the quarterfinals. The No. 7 Mustangs (12-10) are seeded seventh and face No. 10 Mission San Jose at 5:15 p.m. at Novato High on Wednesday.

Three other girls teams made the cut with Redwood being the No. 10 seed in D-I, Marin Catholic the No. 5 seed in D-II and Tam the seventh seed in D-II.
