GIRLS WATER POLO

Miramonte 12, Campolindo 7

A heavyweight matchup between the top two teams in California (according to MaxPreps’ rankings) saw No. 1 Miramonte pull away from Campolindo in a home Diablo Athletic League win. Miramonte senior Roasalie Hassett scored three goals and had three assists to lead the way. 

Audrina Kang had two goals, and Alison Sagara scored one goal and dished out three assists for the Orinda school. 

The aptly-named Tali Stryker scored three goals, with Ally Larsen and Paige Odmark rounding out the scoring for Miramonte. Goalkeeper Eliana Bottene had six saves for the Matadors. Ana Pieper scored three goals for Campolindo. 

“Campolindo is a very tough opponent,” Miramonte coach John Roemer said, with Campo coach Kim Everist adding, “Miramonte dominated the game tonight.”

Sacred Heart Prep 12, St. Francis 10

Sacred Heart Prep’s relatively-balanced attack overcame an incendiary performance by St. Francis’ Anna Fazioli in an exciting game. SHP’s Vivian Golub had six goals and one assist, and Natalia Szczerba had three goals and two assists. 

Jacqueline Hickingbotham, Margaret Brandin and Casey Coleman each scored a goal, with Brandin contributing three assists. Megan Newby, Cal McElhinney and Kiernan Hogan each had an assist. 

Fazioli scored all 10 of the Lancers’ goals on just 13 shots, with three assists coming from Hannah Multz, and one assist courtesy of Sophia Ereno and Alexandra Childs. Keira Wall had six saves and two steals as SF’s goalkeeper, and Ellison Brush and Isabella Dova split time in net for SHP. 

Woodside 9, Terra Nova 5

Woodside took down Terra Nova for the second time in a week, this time propelled by Margo Legros, who scored four goals, won four sprints and had three steals. Megan Hohl was also excellent for the Wildcats, punching in four goals as Woodside won against its Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division opponent. 

Carondelet 20, Foothill 3

Giselle Sanchez and Montana Topping both had three goals in Carondelet’s rout against EBAL opponent Foothill on Tuesday night.  Kayden Page, Josie Haast and Quinn Arroyo all had two goals for the Concord school. Josie Haast, Clara O’Connor and Kayden Page all made their presence known on defense, and each had two steals. Goalkeeper Sarah Wright had 14 saves. 

Leigh 11, Pioneer 6

Leigh improved to 7-4 after Emma Little scored six goals and Miya Pierre scored four goals and had two assists. Summer Mo, a junior, had two assists and was one of seven Leigh players to record an assist. Carmen Kelly and Malika Khedim had two steals apiece. 

Archbishop Mitty Le16, Valley Christian 8

The Monarchs rolled past Valley Christian on senior night. Fourth-year player Gracie Imrisek led Mitty with four goals, and sophomores Maddie Caputo and Zuie Jog had three goals. Seniors Marissa Marcus and Mia Arriaga scored two goals each. Junior Claire Gluzman scored four goals, and Marcus also had five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Eliot Saglam had 11 saves. 

College Park 9, Clayton Valley Charter 3

College Park’s senior leader Lucy Galbraith added to her team-high 52 goals this season with four more against CVC in a Diablo Athletic League clash. Teammate Caroline Swanson, a sophomore, also scored two goals. Cami Luther and Julia Garcia each scored goals, with Garcia adding two assists. Kalena Kardell had an impressive five steals, and Andrea Garcia had two assists.  

Tori Malsom, who leads CVC in goals with 40 and assists with 16, was once again brilliant on Wednesday night. She scored a goal, had an assist and nabbed three steals. Senior Allison Fuentes also had an assist, and teammate Meghan Andrade had two steals.

Leland 15, Branham 5

Chrissy Flynn scored five goals and teammate Evie Burns got four past the keeper as Leland breezed past yet another Blossom Valley Athletic League opponent. Goalkeeper Emily Marshall had 12 saves. 

Tasaria Kilpatrick scored two, as did Briana Livingston. Keilani Morimoto and Diyana Gunasekera each scored one goal for a team that coach Eric Rise said has won 119 consecutive league games dating back to 2008. 

Mission San Jose 9, Irvington 5

Mission San Jose fell behind 4-1 midway through the second quarter but got a spark from an unlikely source in the come-from-behind victory against the Fremont school. 

Freshman Katie Tran had three steals and two assists in her first-ever varsity game. Senior Lucina Tonoyan dribbled the ball across the entire pool to score a goal that would break a 4-4 tie in the third quarter. 

Kira Clark took over from there, the senior scoring five goals in total. Teammate Ozzy Lim also scored three goals. 

BOYS WATER POLO

Sacred Heart Prep 13, St. Francis 9

Andrew Spencer scored three goals and sophomore Clay Carrington got four more past the keeper as Sacred Heart Prep improved to 5-0 in the West Catholic Athletic League.

 Oliver Marcin, Nelson Harris and Tyler Hogan each scored two goals for the Atherton school. Chase Krupitzer scored two goals and teammate Zach Ramans led St. Francis with three goals. Carter Sayar scored two goals, as did fellow senior Reed Perkins

“Credit Sacred Heart,” SF coach Evan Dellinger said. “They’re a very well coached team and they took advantage of our mistakes.“”

College Park 14, Clayton Valley Charter 6

College Park staked its claim to the top spot in the DAL Foothill Division by defeating CVC in a battle of then-undefeated teams. College Park sophomore Nic Austen shined with five goals, one steal, two field blocks and two ejections drawn. Meanwhile, sophomore teammate Owen Luther had two goals and two steals, plus five assists. The Falcons are now 4-0 in the DAL, while CVC is 3-1. 

Menlo School 12, Serra 6

Alex Stoffel fired in five goals in Menlo School’s victory over Serra on Wednesday night. Jackson Coleman scored three goals and Teddy Meeks had two goals and a team-high four assists. Nic Ekstrand and Patrick Galligan each scored a goal as well on senior day. Senior captain Cormac Mulloy led the defense with six steals while Bernardo Oliviera had three blocks. Menlo GK Hunter Guyer had five saves. 

Mission San Jose 18, Irvington 0

Unlike the girls’ game, the outcome was never in doubt as Mission San Jose routed Irvington 18-0. It was the second shutout this season for MSJ’s standout goalkeeper Doniv Vinod. Sophomores Noah Lee and Ryan Kumar both scored in the opening minutes of the game. Leading scorers for MSJ were senior Vinny Yao with five goals and Lee with four.

Miramonte 10, Campolindo 3

Miramonte remained a perfect 5-0 in DAL Foothill league play with a comfortable win on senior night. Henry Engs scored three goals for the Matadors, Patrick Stice and Oliver Sherwood each had two goals, and Griff Tunney, Luke Wagner and Grant Kurtz chipped in a goal apiece. GK Cooper Stern was solid in front of the net with five saves. Miramonte coach John Nash said that “to hold a team of Campolindo’s caliber to three goals takes exceptional team defense and our seniors did an outstanding job of setting the tone early in the game.”

Archie Williams 9, San Ramon Valley 5

San Ramon Valley lost a tough game to Archie Williams, but the Wolves still gave their fans something to cheer about.  Senior attacker Sawyer Jones led the team with three goals and senior utility player Grayson Konisberg scored two goals.  Senior goalie Nick Tovani made nine saves, including a 5M penalty shot save.

VOLLEYBALL

No. 3 Foothill 3, Granada 0

Foothill celebrated senior night on Tuesday by winning its 30th game of the season 25-20, 25-14, 25-15. Foothill coach Dusty Collins said all six seniors started the game and “had a big impact on the straight sets win.” Those seniors were co-captains Katie Salonga and Paige Bennett, and Nisa Kincaid, Maisha Sharma, Maddy Snodgress, and Ema Vukojevic. Foothill is 11-0 in the East Bay Athletic League and 30-1 overall. 

St. Patrick-St. Vincent 3, El Cerrito 0

SPSV won in the opening round of the TCAL playoff tournament with an easy 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 victory over 1-18 El Cerrito. Cierra Ray had 16 kills, four aces, one block and nine digs, and senior captains Olivia Butcher and Himani Bakshi combined for 18 kills. Bakshi had eight aces and Butcher had six digs. Sophomore Danica Pagtakhan had 28 assists, eight digs and four aces, and Dior Duru had 10 kills and two blocks. 

Hayward 3, San Lorenzo 0

Hayward improved to 10-0 in WACC Shoreline with a 25-7, 25-17, 21-25, 25-14 win over San Lorenzo. Evalynn Jimenez had 10 kills and three blocks. Emi Licea, a senior, had eight kills and seven aces. Makayla Asoy led the team in assists and served 10 aces. Kailee Dela Cruz came off the bench in the fourth game and Leica Leonador also played well. Hayward coach Alisa Parsons said “overall the girls are gelling and playing as a unit.”

Homestead 3, Milpitas 0

Homestead improved to 9-0 in league play following a sweep against Milpitas. Senior OH Victoria Simpson had with kills on 20 attempts, and senior setter Annabelle Yip had 15 assists. Coach Daniel Neri said the Cupertino school “looks (forward) to their next matchup against Fremont for their in-town rival game to go 10-0 for the season.”

Silver Creek 3, Willow Glen 0

Silver Creek’s freshman setter Dani Miller led the team with nine kills, and Brielle Moseley and Sophia Quach each had five kills. Moseley also had four blocks. Setter Deziree Lazaro had 11 assists and Miller also had 10 assists. Silver Creek coach Ivonne Luescher said “the team did a great job defensively and got 93% of their serves in.“

Gilroy 3, San Jose 0

Gilroy got contributions from a litany of players in its 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 victory against San Jose on Wednesday night. 

OH Sienna Schwinger and Zaniah Haygood combined for 12 aces, and Haygood and Natalia Sandoval had 19 total kills. Lauren Pulford had two blocks and two kills, and sophomore setter Bella Rodrigo had 27 assists with starting setter Ava Hudnut recovering from an injury. 

Gilroy coach Sonya Beck said libero Bella Gutierrez, Lana Pok, Anna Nguyen and Camilla Gaeta were all solid on defense. 

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

Capuchino 21, Burlingame 19

Burlingame came within seconds of pulling off the victory against Capuchino, with the winning score by the San Bruno school coming with just a few ticks left on the clock. Miranda Sibley threw three touchdowns for Burlingame, one to Kaylee Ng, one to Emerson Burri and another to Brooke Schuman. Naomi Lesli, Louann Bernaudin and Maddy Koo combined for 17 flag pulls for Burlingame. Koo and Gabbie Vega had one interception each. 

Benicia 21, Clayton Valley Charter 14

Clayton Valley Charter 33, Alhambra 6

Sarah Kern and Reagan Costello each caught touchdowns and Anja Perreira had an interception in CVC’s game against Benicia. In the next game, quarterback Julia Lovelace tossed four touchdowns, and Gianna Marcantanio had two TD catches, Angelina Vargas caught another, and Ruby Bartholomew hauled in the final TD pass. Perreira picked off her seventh pass in eight games, and returned it all the way for a touchdown. 

Carlmont 32, Sequoia 0

Carlmont’s offense had over 300 total yards, split almost evenly between rushing and passing. Quarterbacks Lauren Greene and Bella Wilson connected with WRs Alessandra Nelson and Emerson Barajas for four total TDs.

Carlmont’s defenders picked off five interceptions. Standout freshman Samantha Tow had three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown to stymie the Sequoia offense. Bella Wilson broke up a pass to end a Sequoia drive as Carlmont has now allowed just 12 points in six games.

 

Northgate 7, Acalanes 6

Northgate 7, Campolindo 0

With scoring at a premium, Sara LaVay’s 55-yard touchdown run on the first possession of the game was all Northgate would get, and needed, to put away Acalanes. Northgate coach Lauren Lahey said Brooklynne Smith and Danica Heine had critical flag pulls, and that Gracia Guerrero came away with multiple sacks on the night.

Jenna Steele’s interception return for an Acalanes touchdown cut Northgate’s lead to one, and Dakota Goyert and Kelly Todhunter were both relentless pass-rushers for Acalanes. 

Sadie Hansell caught Northgate’s only touchdown of the second game, and Katelyn Takahashi caught both of Northgate’s point after touchdown attempts. 

Acalanes 20, Campolindo 6

Acalanes rallied from an early deficit to win the first of two games on senior night, when 11 Acalanes players were honored. Campolindo’s Isabelle Maher picked off an Acalanes pitch and ran it back for a touchdown, but the Dons answered with 20 straight points.

Ella Thompson caught a TD to tie the game at 6-6 going into halftime, and then QB Addie Martin connected with Maya Shoenhair on a long TD pass to give the Lafayette school the lead. 

Kelly Todhunter, who coach Todd Shoenhair said “was slicing and dicing the Cougars all night long,’ had a long run set up Maya Shoenhair’s second TD reception, this time from QB Zoya Acuna

The coach said the game was clinched when Alana Brinkman made a key interception to allow the Dons to run out the clock.

Sacred Heart Cathedral 40, Analy 8

Sacred Heart Cathedral 12, Sacred Heart Prep 8

In the game against Analy on Tuesday, Sacred Heart Cathedral’s Reza Po scored two TDs and Kei’Yanii Dawson also had an interception. Kiana Moniz picked off two passes, Izzy Guzman had one interception and Autumn Bell had two sacks. 

Jadah Lee and Delilah Sampior both scored touchdowns in the rout against Analy, and Kosi Anibuko and Lynn Alapati led the team in flag pulls. In Wednesday’s game against Sacred Heart Prep, SHC got touchdowns from Alyssa Diamzon and Dawson. 

Menlo School 32, Notre Dame-Belmont 0

Menlo School 18, The King Academy 14

The Knights ran their winning streak to eight games after a pair of wins on Wednesday. In the first game, Sophie Housser intercepted a pass and caught a touchdown, and then senior Paige Miller caught a pass from do-it-all QB Ava Allen

Allen threw touchdowns to Summer Young, Kylie Jones and Ellie Knoll after that in the easy victory. In the game against TKA, Paige Miller and Allen switched roles, with Miller throwing a TD to Allen. Allen also threw a TD to sophomore Krista Arreola and ran for a TD to give Menlo School the victory. 

Sophomores Marin Yamada and Bianca Putanec also had outstanding performances on defense for Menlo School.
