Sports Briefs: Woodhead brothers to represent Team USA Water Polo at PanAm Games

Two Archie Williams High alumni will represent the United States at the Pan American Games later this month. Dylan Woodhead will make his PanAmerican Games debut with Team USA in Santiago, Chile. His brother, Quinn Woodhead, was selected as an alternate.

The U.S. will open the tournament against Mexico on October 30. The winner of the tournament will earn a berth in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Boys water polo

Sophomore Charlie Poser scored a game-high five goals as 10 different Redwood High players tallied scores in Wednesday’s 18-6 victory over Marin Catholic. Sawyer Goldberg, Zach Baumgarten, Ryan Voges and Finn Barnes each scored twice for the Giants (10-7, 6-1), who also got goals from Tucker Wells, Jakob Enberg, Wyatt Vaughan, Andrew Wallace and Tanner Desin.

Junior Charlie Cain led the Wildcats (3-7, 1-4) with three goals, while Connor Cochrane, Shane Quinan and Nikolai Federoff each added goals.

• Monte Vista netted two goals in overtime to complete a 10-8 comeback win over Tam in a non-league game Wednesday in Mill Valley. Tam (11-3, 6-1 MCAL), which led 6-3 at halftime, received four goals from senior Quin Concannon and two goals from senior Wes Attinger. This is the second time in two weeks Tam has lost in overtime to Monte Vista. The Red-tailed Hawks have a chance to break the streak when the same two teams play Friday during tournament action in Walnut Creek.

Girls water polo

Marin Catholic held off Redwood, 7-5, in Wednesday’s battle of MCAL powerhouses. The Wildcats’ Anya Jaroszewski led the scoring with three goals, while Emma Slaught and Claire Cassidy each had two goals. Goalie Kiki Jaroszewski stopped five Redwood shots. The Giants got goals from Kate DeForrest, Giselle Orson, Morgan Sicklick and Annabelle Kilgore.

Girls golf

San Marin finished the regular season with a 207-223 victory over crosstown rival Novato on Wednesday. Valentina Gudino led the Mustangs (7-9) with a 46 for low honors. The Hornets’ Hailey Picetti was close behind at 49.

• Marin Catholic’s Lexi Ferguson took low medalist honors with a 9-over par 44 at StoneTree to lead the Wildcats past Terra Linda, 202 -249 on Tuesday. The Trojans’ Zohe Betts shot a 51.

Girls tennis

The Branson School’s Audrey Gilmore earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles to lead the Bulls past San Marin, 5-2, Wednesday in Novato. Gabby Steele and Simone Schactner won at No. 3 and 4 singles for Branson.

In the match of the day, the Mustangs’ Deepti Bhat rallied past the Bulls’ Paloma-Vano Rice, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) in a thriller at No. 2 singles.

• Redwood cruised past host Terra Linda, 7-0, Wednesday as the Giants’ Julia Laurie, Livia Klompus, Molly Gallagher and Kelly Melbardis swept singles play.

• Tam roared past a visiting Novato squad, 7-0, Wednesday in Mill Valley. The Red-tailed Hawks got straight-set wins in every contest, with Maria-Jose Stuart, Annika Hakes, Louise McGinness and Scarlett Wilson sweeping singles play. Hawks freshman Lily Hoefer made her debut in a match at No. 3 doubles with teammate Adeline Scheer, a transfer student. The duo won 6-1, 6-0.

Flag football

Drew Morehouse threw a 60-yard scoring pass to Omar Williams, one of six touchdown throws to lead San Domenico past the Bay School on Wednesday. The Panthers’ Hank Figueroa had six sacks for an aggressive San Domenico defense.
