The Fourth Commonwealth Championships are due to be held from 23rd to the 30th September 2018, in Malta at the Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex.

The senior Scotland Men’s and Women’s teams will be participating with the aim of improving on our 3rd and 4th placings when the 2014 Championships were held in Aberdeen ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Water Polo Championships are held in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games and although they are no longer included in the Commonwealth Games programme, Water Polo is acknowledged by the Commonwealth Games Foundation as a sport for potential inclusion in future Games with further development in Commonwealth countries.

The Championships are in a round robin format and whilst it was hoped that the next Games would have been held in conjunction with the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia, this never came to pass.

As a minority sport we rely wholly on funding from our athletes, sponsors and supporters through either fundraising or from the athletes’ own resources.  There are significant costs in getting 26 athletes plus coaching, management staff and game officials to an international event of this magnitude, the biggest in the Scotland International calendar (which includes not only our costs, but we must pay for entry, transport and food for the week).

We would therefore be grateful for all and any help, however big or small, that can be afforded to support our athletes and the development of Water Polo as a sport in Scotland.
