About Dianne Murray – Coach:

Dianne Murray is a pioneer of women’s volleyball in British Columbia whose impact spans generations as an athlete, coach, and builder.

After an outstanding playing career that included four BC High School Championships with Britannia Secondary, four national titles with the Vancouver Calonas/Chimos, and international competition with Team Canada, Dianne transitioned seamlessly into coaching.

As head coach of the UBC Women’s Volleyball Team from 1975 to 1978, she led the Thunderbirds to back-to-back CIAU National Championships and a historic 1978 Canadian Open National title—the first ever by a university program. She continued to shape young athletes as a high school coach at Eric Hamber Secondary, helping to build strong grassroots programs across Vancouver. Renowned for her mentorship, vision, and commitment to advancing women’s volleyball, Dianne Murray’s legacy as a coach and builder remains deeply rooted in the sport’s development in British Columbia.

About Frederic Winters – Athlete:

A long-time member and captain of Team Canada, Fred Winters represented his country with distinction from 2003 to 2016, helping lead the national team to numerous international successes, including a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Originally from Victoria, BC, Winters began his athletic journey at Claremont Secondary School, where he excelled across multiple sports, including volleyball, leading the Spartans to multiple provincial medals. Winters went on to star at Pepperdine University, where he was a two-time AVCA All-American and recorded over 1,500 career kills.

Over nearly two decades, his professional career took him across the world—with top clubs in France, Austria, Korea, Russia, China, Brazil, and Portugal—where he earned championships and a reputation as one of Canada’s most respected volleyball professionals.

About Brittney Page – Athlete:

A former captain of Team Canada, Brittney Page represented her country with distinction from 2009 to 2016, competing in over 100 international matches, including two FIVB World Championships, two Pan American Games, and multiple NORCECA events. Born in Kelowna and raised in Vernon, BC, she began her volleyball journey with the Vernon Vortex and Kelowna Volleyball Club, later representing Team BC and Canada’s Youth and Junior National Teams. At Eastern Washington University, Page led her team to four consecutive Big Sky Conference titles and earned multiple all-conference honours. Her professional career spanned nine countries—including Spain, Italy, Germany, and China—where she became the first Canadian woman to play in the top Chinese league.

Since retiring, Brittney Page continues to exemplify leadership, excellence, and service to sport in British Columbia, being recognized with a Community Sport Hero Award in 2017.

About Al Kostiuk – Athlete:

Alan Kostiuk’s volleyball journey began in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and took flight after moving to British Columbia, where he quickly earned a spot on the 1975 BC Canada Games Team. That team went on to win gold without dropping a set, with Kostiuk scoring the championship’s final point—a victory later recognized with induction into the Volleyball BC Hall of Fame in 2020. His success led to a distinguished playing career with the BCO Club, the University of Victoria Vikings, and ultimately the Canadian National Team. Known for his athleticism, leadership, and integrity, Kostiuk represented Canada at major international competitions including the 1977 World Cup, the 1978 World Championships, and the 1979 Pan American Games, where Canada captured bronze.
