Ian Gregory and Mike Sayers to be inducted to Volleyball BC Hall of Fame, Class of 2024
Volleyball BC is excited to announce the induction of Ian Gregory and Mike Sayers into the Volleyball BC Hall of Fame, Class of 2024.
The accomplishments, commitment, and influence demonstrated by Ian and Mike over their long and distinguished careers in the sport have left an enduring impact on the volleyball community in British Columbia. Their dedication to excellence, leadership, and passion for the game continue to inspire athletes, coaches, and fans alike, and we are proud to recognize their remarkable contributions with this honour.
We hope you will join us in celebrating the induction of these two giants of the sport in the province at our upcoming Hall of Fame and Excellence Awards Gala, taking place November 8th at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby, BC.

About Ian Gregory – Builder:
Ian Gregory has enjoyed a multi-decade career in volleyball across British Columbia, excelling as an athlete, coach, administrator, and lifelong ambassador for the sport. On the court, he was a key member of the legendary BCO Club team that won the 1978 national championship and was later inducted into the VBC Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021. He also captured a CIAU national title and multiple Canada West championships with the UBC Thunderbirds during his five-year university career, and excelled in beach volleyball, winning the BC provincial championships in 1979 alongside fellow 2024 inductee Mike Sayers.
Off the court, Ian has made an equally lasting impact on the sport, dedicating 15 years to Volleyball BC—including terms as treasurer and president—and serving on the Sport BC board. His leadership, mentorship, and advocacy have helped shape volleyball across the province, fostering opportunities for athletes, coaches, and clubs for generations.
About Mike Sayers – Athlete:
Mike Sayers has had a remarkable volleyball career spanning nearly five decades, excelling in both indoor and beach disciplines. He played university volleyball at Dalhousie and was also member of the 1978 BCO Club national championship team, inducted into the VBC Hall of Fame in 2021. At the provincial level, Mike captured multiple BC championships, including a few alongside fellow 2024 inductee Ian Gregory, and he represented Canada in dozens of international beach tournaments. Mike has also enjoyed a highly accomplished Master’s beach career, winning multiple medals and continuing to demonstrate his skill, dedication, and passion for the sport across the decades.
Off the court, he has also contributed to the development of volleyball through coaching, mentorship, and promoting the sport in his community, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of athletes.
