5 Passing Drills Every Volleyball Player Must Master
Have you ever lost confidence in a match because your passing broke down? One bad reception… then another… and suddenly you’re fighting just to stay on the court. ????
I’ve been there many times in my pro career, and that’s why I put together 5 simple but powerful drills that will sharpen your movement, improve your control, and make you the kind of player every coach trusts in the back row.
???? Here are the drills:
1️⃣ Circle Around & Pass – run small circles around a ball on the ground, receive a toss, and pass accurately back. Focus: quick steps + clean accuracy.
2️⃣ Passing Beside the Body – catch, adjust, and throw back to feel correct positioning for wide serves. Builds muscle memory.
3️⃣ Two Balls, Central Passing – move side to side around two markers, always returning to center before the next pass. Focus: concentration + precision under movement.
4️⃣ Passing Beside the Body in Motion – same setup, but now you’re passing while moving to each side. Adds speed + pressure.
5️⃣ Forward & Backward Passing – sprint forward, shuffle back, then pass with control. Trains explosiveness + balance.
???? Bonus: Rapid Low Passing – 50 quick bumps in a row at low height. Perfect for liberos & OHs who need stability under pressure.
???? These drills aren’t complicated, but if you perform them with precision, your serve receive will skyrocket.
Question for you: Which of these drills do you want to try first?
