AAU Boys’ National Championships 2025 – Wave 1 Day 2 Recap

0 2

Day 2 brought along some amazing volleyball so read all about it below.

18 Open – Results

Top 4 seeds are still cruising along as MB SURF, WPVC, Balboa Bay, and Bay to Bay are all still undefeated.  They are joined in this exclusive club by #10 Wave, #11 Adversity South and #18 Pulse.  Only MB Surf and WPVC have not yet dropped a set and still look to be on a collision course in the final but stranger things have happened before so lets see how it all plays out over the next 2 days.

#1 MB Surf once again did not give up more than 20 points to any of their opponents and #2 WPVC had only 2 close sets today against #35 Legacy Boys and #14 HVA.

Showcasing the parity of the rest of the field is MVVC who continued their great play today and upset the #5 Rockstar but only after getting upset themselves by #44 Elevation.

Pool 1A – MB Surf is looking like they will be winning this pool and Roch PaceBootlegger will be joining them while 630 Volleyball, Vanguard and Yorktowne are still alive for a chance to get to the gold challenge matches.  Yorktowne will need to beat MB Surf tomorrow morning so they have the hardest path of the 3 teams.

Pool 1B – WPVC and Adversity will decide the pool winner tomorrow morning in their matchup while HVA and SMASH Boys will decide the 3rd place

Pool 1C – Similar situation as in Pool 1B with Balboa Bay and Wave matching up to decide the winner of the pool and HPSTL Royal and Pipeline winner will be guaranteed a spot in the gold challenge bracket.  AZ Fear will get in if they beat MVP

Pool 1D – Bay to Bay has clinched first place while SCVC, MVC, SC Legends, SASVBC and even MAVS (with a lot of help) can still make the challenge rounds

Pool 1E – Top 4 finishers have been decided but not the order with Rockstar, COAST, MVVC and GSL all still very much alive.

Pool 1F – Sports Performance, Academy and Pulse have clinched spots in the gold challenge rounds and Cinci Attack will need some help from Pulse as they need A4 to lose and to beat BSVBC to have a chance at the gold challenge round.

16 Open – Results

Only a couple of teams remain undefeated and have not dropped a set yet.  These include #4 HPSTL B16 Royal (5 players on this team are on VolleyballMag.com’s Rising Stars Class of ’27 and playing like it), #8 MB Surf ASICS 16’s 1 and #13 Balboa Bay 16Blue who upset #1 Rockstar earlier today in a thrilling match 2-0 (25-23, 28-26) (Watch on BallerTV).   Last couple of points of this match were really entertaining and Balboa Bay’s libero Brody Williams and setter Cash Summers (both on VolleyballMag’s Rising Stars Class of ’27) really came through for their team with clutch passing and setting, respectively.  We must add that the play of the match was made on the defensive end by Balboa Bay’s MH Elijah Booker who got an amazing dig in the left back and allowed his team to score the match point.  Hats off to Balboa Bay and I am sure Rockstar will not take this lightly as they look to win their last pool match and go into gold bracket challenge matches tomorrow on a winning note.

Other undefeated teams include #2 GVA Boys 16u Dark Blue, # 5 Aspire 16 Spiderman, #10 Pulse 16-G, #11 MVC 16-Brad, and the surprise of the tournament so far #30 SASVBC B 16 JAYCE.  SASVBC proved that their win yesterday against a favored Bay to Bay team was no fluke by beating #7 Pinnacle 16 McKay 2-1 today.  Out of the 12 sets they have won so far, 7 of them they have won by 3 points or less.  Talk about living on the edge and coming through!

Tomorrow is the last day of the pool play and challenge matches will kick off immediately after:

Pool 1A – Rockstar, Balboa Bay are guaranteed and Elevation, HVA and DallasOne still have a chance

Pool 1B – GVA, MVC 16-Brad are guaranteed and will be playing tomorrow morning to figure out who is #1 in the pool, while MVP, Core and SCVC still have a chance for one of top 4 spots

Pool 1C – Pulse is guaranteed #1 seed and COAST, SCB and Academy from Indiana will round out the other 3 top finishers

Pool 1D – HPSTL is guaranteed #1 seed and MOD, AZ Fear and Roch PaceBootleggr will claim spots 2-4

Pool 1E – Aspire and MB Surf will match up in the morning to figure out #1 seed in the pool and Orlando Gold, GSL, SMBC and MVVC still have a shot at other 2 spots.  This is going to be a barn burner and will likely result in some golden set battles.

Pool 1F – SASVBC, Bay to Bay and Pinnacle will be in top 3 spots and 4th place will be claimed by either PW 118 or Torrimar in a matchup where winner will go into the gold challenge matches and loser will not.

13 Open – Results

Very few surprises still as GVA, Bay to Bay and Borinquen Coqui remain undefeated.  Great job by AAU seeding the teams   Top 2 teams in each of the 4 3-team pools will earn a right to play in the championship bracket.

12 Open – Results

Top 2 seeds are still undefeated and have lost 1 set between them as MB Surf and Borinquen Coqui continue their winning ways.

Notables from non-Open Divisions

18 Premier

“Should have played Open but did not get seeded very well award” (J/K goes to #38 Niagara Frontier 18s who are now 6-0 and 12-1 in sets (finally losing a set to a tough Mamba 18-Black team) but look poised to compete for 18-Premier championship.  Joking aside, these guys are really good and its been fun watching them compete!  There are a number of these types of teams in 18 Premier including  #31 A-10 18 Black (5-1), #33 Coastal 18 Matt (5-1), #42 BORINQUEN COQUI 18-1M (5-1),  #43 Adversity VBC 18 Purple (5-1), #56 MOVA UA 18 Gold Boys (5-1), #57 Inferno 18 Fire (5-1) and #73!!! Louisville Fury 18 Orange (6-0).  Way to prove the seeding committee wrong boys!

12 Club

This looks like its gonna come down to the two Puerto Rico teams (Kali 12-Jose and Borinquen Coqui) and the 11 year olds from Thunderbolt Volleyball.  All of the teams are undefeated so far.

13 Club

Usually in lower divisions if a team has above 2.0 point % after 2 days of competition they are probably going to be in the final.  PREVA 13-1 Carlos Rivera is at 2.069 and is looking like a contender.

16 Premier

9 teams are still undefeated (Bay to Bay 16-Premier, TU Boys 16-Elite, HPSTL B16 Orange, Vegas United B16Black, Kinnect 16 Forest, Yorktowne 16 Blue, MOD B16 Gold, Miami United 16 N Charles, Sidewinder 16-1) so this is still too early to call.  Will see what happens tomorrow afternoon!

Top Club of the Day

Not to sound like a broken record but these 2 clubs are just doing really impressive things…

MB Surf (22 Match Wins, 1 Match Loss; 45 sets won, 5 sets lost across 18, 16, 13, 12 Open divisions, Avg Point % of 1.33).  They just continue to roll across all age groups in an impressive fashion.

Borinquen Coqui (23 Match Wins, 1 Match Loss;  47 sets won, 4 set lost across 18 Premier, 13, 12 Open and 12 Club divisions, Avg Point % of 1.40)

Joining these two juggernauts today are:

Milwaukee Volleyball Club (25 Match wins, 5 match losses, 51 sets won and 20 sets lost)  – They are still undefeated in 16 Open and 18 Premier and have only 1 loss in 16 Premier division

GVA Volleyball Academy (22 Match wins, 2 Match losses, 46 sets won and 10 sets lost)  – Still undefeated in 16 and 13 Open and 1 loss in 16 premier and 12 Club.

Top Performance of the Day

#30 SASVBC B 16 Jayce went 3-0 and 6-1 in sets for the 2nd day in a row and is one win away from finishing first in a really tough pool after being seeded 5th.  We love the Cinderella teams here at VolleyballMag, lets see if they can continue this dream run!
