AAU Boys’ National Championships 2025 – Wave 1 Day 1 Recap

0 0

As Day 1 comes to a close in Orlando, we have been fortunate to watch some great volleyball. Reminder that open divisions in 15-18s are now 6 pools of 8 teams and top 4 finishers in each pool will have a shot at a Gold Bracket.

18 Open – Results

Top 3 teams cruised to relatively easy wins in their first 3 matches with each team (MB Surf, WPVC and Balboa needing to go overtime in 1 set against Pipeline 18s, Absolute Blue, and Pipeline 18-1s respectively).  We did see a couple of upsets early as well where #7 (Academy), #8 (Coast) and #9 (SCVC Quiksilver) all dropped a match to lower seeded teams.  Yorktowne 18 Blue is also struggling with a couple of tough, very close losses to Aspire 18 Thor and 630 Volleyball.  They will need to turn it around in a hurry if they plan on making it to that coveted top 4 spot.  Have to also mention MVVC 18 Red, who has cruised so far and had a big win against Coast in their last match of the day.

16 Open – Results

Only seeds #3 (COAST) and #4 (HPSTL) managed to get through the day unscathed with unblemished 6-0 records.  Everyone else had some struggles early.  #6 Bay to Bay 16-1s lost a closely fought affair to #30 SASVBC B16 Jayce (3-0 on the day).  #9 MOD B16 Blue played three really close matches today and lost 4 out of their 5 lost sets by 3 points or less.   They faced one of the biggest surprises of the day, #33 (Roch PaceBootleggr 16 Blk) (3-0 on the day)

13 Open – Results

No surprises so far with all the top seeds going 3-0 including GVA, MB Surf, SCVC, Bay to Bay, Borinquen Coqui and MOD B13 Blue.  Great job by the AAU seeding the teams

12 Open – Results

Couple of upsets in this always unpredictable age group with #3 Bay to Bay 12-1 & #5 Maryland Volleyball Program going 1-2.  Both of the teams are still alive for the gold bracket but will be facing some tough competition tomorrow.

Top Club of the Day

MB Surf (11 Match Wins, 0 Match Losses; 22 sets won, 2 sets lost across 18, 16, 13, 12 Open divisions, Avg Point % of 1.36)

Borinquen Coqui (12 Match Wins, 0 Match Losses;  24 sets won, 1 set lost across 18 Premier, 13, 12 Open and 12 Club divisions, Avg Point % of 1.47)

Top Performance of the Day

#3 16-Open COAST Boys 16-1 Ian&Dave went 3-0, 6-0 in sets and allowed only one opponent to cross over 20 points in a set.  Dominating first day.  They are taking on 630, SynergyForce and SCB 16 Salty JJ tomorrow so lets see if they can keep it going!
