3/28 – 29 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Weekend Recap
Beware the ides of March (or in this case last weekend of March) What an incredible weekend of volleyball we had! Multiple upsets, crazy match finishes bringing us to whats likely going to be a crazy last month of the season!
VBelo bringing us all the updates as usual!
We have our first regular-season conference champ and a couple more upsets to add to the growing list. Not to mention a couple of matches today to help wrap up March.
Congratulations to the University of Mount Olive Trojans on securing their spot as the outright Conference Carolinas Champions! This is their fifth regular-season championship and first since 2021. Their 16 match winning streak, where they have only dropped two sets, isn’t too shabby either.
March 30th
Big West
#1 Long Beach (54%) def. #5 UC Irvine (46%)
3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 29-27)
On the last play of the game, Moni Nikolov got his 1 ace. He has yet to be held ace-less in a match this season. He is still on track to set the single-season ace record and is already in third place on the list. For those unfamiliar with the calendar, it is still March!

March 29th
Yesterday was something else. I knew it would be a big volleyball day, just from the sheer number of matches (20), but I didn’t expect this. The MIVA lived up to the madness that they have been delivering. But it was the Big West that stole the show. UC Irvine proved that Long Beach is beatable and they did it in the Pyramid, of all places. If that wasn’t enough, UCSB said “hold my volleyball” and went and defeated CSUN. If you were looking for a parlay, VBelo had the odds of both UCI and UCSB winning at just 4%!
But all of that fails in comparison to the biggest upset of the day ( and maybe the season): Quincy defeating Ball State. With just a 5% chance of winning, the Hawks got the huge away win. With the postseason just a few weeks away, the MIVA is shaping up to be ultra exciting, yet again.
