Boys’ Club Volleyball Recap Feb 1st through 3rd in Chicago and Orlando

There were two big boys’ tournaments over the weekend in Chicago, Illinois and Orlando, Florida.  Most club teams are wrapping up the season to have their athletes prepare for the spring 2025 high school season.  Boys’ club volleyball is in a good place right now in our country, many teams from all over the country are competing at a high level and the summer club season should be fun to watch.

KP’S Feb 4th Athlete Of The Week:

John Villanueva, who is a libero out of Orlando Gold Volleyball Club has earned KP’S Athlete Of The Week.  Villanueva is a solid libero that keeps his team in system with his passing and makes plays defensively to help Orlando Gold score in transition. “John is a fantastic athlete with more girt than anyone I’ve coached.  He will sacrifice everything to keep a ball alive,” Coach Amber, Orlando Gold Head Coach.

KP’S Feb 4th Club Of The Week:

Winter Park Volleyball Club earned the club of the week.  Many of their teams are medaling at some of the top tournaments in the country.  Their 18s Armour Black team is loaded with talent and many of the athletes are committed to play college volleyball next year. “I was WPVC’S first employee when my dad started the club in 2011 and I was the first coach to start boys volleyball at the club in 2017.  I’ve been with this 18s group for about eight years now and to see the growth of the club from now until then has been incredibly special.  The club has worked tirelessly to provide the athletes wit the best training and facilities possible to grow to where they are now,” Coach Jordan Little.

Chicago, Illinois:

The Second City Showdown was played in Bedford Park and mainly brought in teams from the Midwest.  Milwaukee Volleyball Club stole the show having three of their teams win their divisions and 630 Volleyball out of Chicago had many top three finishes.

“We had a nice weekend as a club at the Second City Showdown in Chicago.  All of our teams finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions and three champs.  The boys are forming a tight knit chemistry across the board and the trust within each other is really starting to come through with the results on the floor,” Brad Kuehl, Director Milwaukee Volleyball Club.

“630 Volleyball had a great tournament at the Second City Showdown.  We had 11 finishing in the top 10 of the event.  Our 15-1’s competed in the 16 open and were able to make it to the finals before they lost to a strong MVC 16s.  18-3’s and 14-1’s finished second in their respected divisions.  Overall a great event for our club as we near high school season for our athletes,” Nick Maruyama, 630 Volleyball Club Director.

“We did a great job playing to our stand for the first two days of the tournament going 6-0.  AJV 18 Adidas handed us our first and only loss on the final day.  Overall not bad for us going 6-1,” Max Kuhn, libero for JJVA in the 18U Division.
