Longhorns ease by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in opening round of NCAA volleyball tourney
AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 13 Texas made quick work of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, sweeping the Islanders in the first round of the NCAA volleyball tournament at Gregory Gym.
Set scores were 25-11, 25-23, 25-12.
The Longhorns hit .383 with 46 kills and 10 errors in 94 attempts, led by Madisen Skinner's double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs.
Marianna Singletary notched 10 kills while Ayden Ames had eight. Averi Carlson notched 38 set assists. Jenna Wenaas led Texas with 13 digs and Emma Halter had 10.
The Longhorns had 10.5 team blocks to the Islanders' 5.5. Ames had five block assists while Reagan Rutherford had four.
Texas (19-6) takes on Southern California in the second round at 6:30 p.m. Friday inside Gregory Gym. The Trojans beat UT Arlington 3-0 earlier in the day.
