Sports Briefs: Terra Linda volleyball strengthens MCAL playoff bid

Josie Campo had 20 kills, 22 digs and three aces as Terra Linda took another big step toward an MCAL girls volleyball playoff berth with a 25-23, 25-16, 13-25, 22-25, 15-13 win against San Rafael on Tuesday night.

Mia Patino had 45 digs and a pair of aces for the Trojans (20-8, 3-2 MCAL). Tess Hazelrig had 24 assists, 10 digs and three aces.

  • Katie Murphy had 12 kills, six digs and three aces to lift Marin Academy to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-15 against Urban on Tuesday night. Maddie Booth had 22 digs and three assists. Reese Barber and Alegra Huck combined for eight kills and three blocks for MA (11-10, 1-3 BCL West).

Girls water polo

San Rafael won its first MCAL league game, 18-16, against Novato in an exciting back and forth contest in which the lead changed hands four times. Down by three goals at the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs rallied to score six unanswered goals. Captain Maya Kux scored three goals, with two coming in the crucial fourth-quarter rally, and Ella Clark scored the second of her second goals with 22 seconds left to play to cement the win.

Alex Markwick fueled the win with 10 goals, including four penalty shot goals, and four assists. Anya Kelly made a team-high 7 assists to go with her goal. Captain Alma Camacho scored two goals.

  • Marin Academy rallied in the fourth period to beat Tam, 12-9, Tuesday. Gabby Reichley, Kelly Kurtzig and Hannah Reichley each scored three goals for the Wildcats (12-3, 5-0 MCAL). Tam goalie Nola Palestrant scored with full-length shot at the buzzer in the third period.
  • Archie Williams beat San Domenico, 12-2, Tuesday, as Mila Rendic scored three times for the Peregrine Falcons. Emma Grasso had two goals for the Panthers. In other action Tuesday, Marin Catholic lost t oLas Lomas, 17-5.

Boys water polo

Archie Williams beat San Domenico, 14-4, Tuesday behind five goals from Nico Rendic. The Panthers got two goals from Williams Rothstein.

  • Novato beat San Rafael, 12-4, Tuesday, although the Bulldogs got two goals from junior Charlie Bussi and one each from juniors Sherwood Critchfield and jack Charlesworth.

Girls tennis

Marin Catholic won some taut matchups on the court to beat Archie Williams, 6-1, on Tuesday. The Wildcats’ Georgia Compagno held off the Peregrine Falcons’ Maya Evans, 7-5, 6-4, for the victory at No. 1 singles and Christiane Zuber won 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 singles. Marin Catholic’s Ellie Damiani rallied past Amara Lee-Watson, 4-6, 7-6 (10-4) at No. 4 singles. Archie Williams’ Eva Montashem 6-2, 6-4 over Sienna Taylor at No. 3 singles.

Men’s soccer

David de Jesus Guerro got the hat trick as College of Marin beat Contra Costa, 4-0, Tuesday. The Mariners (1-10-2) also got a goal from Dante Amador.

Rowing

The North Bay Rowing Club junior team came home loaded with medals after Sunday’s Head of the Port Regatta in Sacramento.NBRC Junior Athletes celebrating first-place finishes in their events were: Lucy Campbell won the women’s junior solo event in 24:04, and the U15 junior men’s coxed quad won in 24:51 with rowers Parker Lim, Noah Wolff, Davi Faria, Cash Reinheimer and coxswain Connor Gehrke.

The U17 junior women’s quad took first place in 21:20 with San Marin’s Olivia Ru and Marley DeFord, Casey Pasdach and Lucy Campbell. San Marin’s Isabel Bartling and Alyssa Celli from Novato’s Sinaloa Middle School, with Sonoma Academy’s Marie Weilbacher and Pasdach, with coxswain Mae Stearns, won the U16 junior women’s coxed quad with a time of 23:34.

Chloe Ru of Sinaloa Middle School and Eloisa Faria of St. Vincent de Paul, with Charlotte LeRoy and Aanchal Kamari, and coxswain Mikey Miscio, took second (28:28) in the women’s novice coxed quad. North Bay boats also took second in the U15 double, men’s U16 solo, women’s U19 solo and men’s U16 quad.
