Volleyball roundup: Marin Catholic wins eighth consecutive section crown
Outside hitter Emily Greene had winning kills in the first and third sets as the Marin Catholic girls volleyball team upset top-seeded Campolindo to claim the North Coast Section Division II title with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-17 victory in Moraga on Saturday night.
Greene was part of a typically balanced attack for No. 3 MC, registering eight kills for the match. Middle blocker Brooke Brilliant had a team-high 10 kills, including the set winner in the second. Krystal Rose Huff added eight kills and Izzy Adam had seven.
The win secured Marin Catholic’s eighth consecutive section title since 2014. MC won a pair of Division IV titles, then three more D-III titles before being moved up again and claiming the past three D-II titles.
MC had already qualified for next week’s NorCal playoffs by virtue of making the semifinals. The Wildcats will learn their seeding and division when NorCal brackets are released on Sunday.
Huff paced the Wildcats (24-10) with three of the team’s six blocks. Libero Tehani Ulufatu had a team-high 22 digs. Greene had 12 digs. Setter Molly Harrison had 33 assists and eight digs.
San Domenico falls
Mackenzie Flinn led the way with 12 kills, six blocks and added four aces as the Panthers fell in three sets on the road against top-seeded San Francisco Waldorf in the NCS D-VI title game on Saturday night.
The No. 2 Panthers have managed 12 wins so far this season after going winless in 2021. San Domenico can yet add to its win total in next week’s NorCal playoffs. The Panther will learn their seeding on Sunday.
Nina-Marie Sadie had eight kills and a team-high six aces in the section final. Julia Lowenstein dished out 31 assists to go with three blocks. Olivia Williams had four kills and a pair of blocks.
