[Beach Volleyball] Call/Snider Upset USK #1's in Dual Meet Split
CARLSBAD, Calif. – The San Diego Christian Beach volleyball team split a dual match Friday at Tamarack Beach in Carlsbad, easily taking down the Mira Costa College Spartans 5-0 in match one, but dropping the second to the #6 University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 1-4.
Match 1
The Hawks cruised to a 5-0 sweep in the morning match against the Mira Costa College Spartans only dropping 1 set as a team. The Spartan #1 team was no match for SDCC's #1's. Katie Call and Thea Snider never struggled in the 21-11, 21-10 victory.
The veteran indoor pair of Jessica Pinasco and Jewel McDonough won 21-17, 21-18. Megan Flores and Jessee Grubesic took down their opponents 21-17, 21-13, and Malia Koloamatangi and Alyssa Aleman coasted 21-18, 21-1.
Eliano Cho and Aiza Crespo were triumphant in three sets, claiming the tiebreaker 15-13.
Match 2
Although the Hawks lost the team match, the SDCC #1's Katie Call and Thea Snider upset their #1 counterparts from the No. 6 University of Saint Katherine. After taking the opening set 21-19, Call and Snider nearly pulled off the sweep at 20-22. The momentum of a strong finish in set two carried over into the tiebreaker which they won 15-11.

The Hawks have a rare match close to home on Tuesday, March 1, when they take on the Grossmont College Griffins at Grossmont. The match begins at 11 am.
