[Volleyball] Falcons Down York 3-1 on the Road
YORK, Neb. — Rheagan Hoover (SR/Pratt, Kan. ) tied her previous career-high with 19 kills Saturday (Oct. 2) to lead the Friends University Falcons to a 3-1 victory over the York College Panthers in York, Neb.
The Falcons opened the match with a 7-3 run, thanks to back-to-back aces by Greeley Munroe, then maintained control to win the first set 25-16.
Set two was back-and-forth until a pair of kills by Hoover aided the Falcons to a 10-6 lead. York responded with a 5-1 spurt to tie the game at 11.
Then later in the set, the Falcons used a 6-1 run of their own to grab a 22-18 advantage. Again, the Panthers tied the match 25-25, then used a pair of attacking errors to win 28-26.
York came out firing in the third set, grabbing a 6-3 edge after three straight kills. A block by Hoover and Remyngton Green (SR/Nickerson, Kan. ) followed by another ace by Munroe sparked a 6-0 run for the Falcons.
From there, Friends took control to take the set 25-16, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Falcons grabbed a 12-6 lead early in the fourth set, but again, York battled back to cut the Falcon edge to 14-13.
Back-to-back kills by Green, followed by Munroe's fifth service ace of the match, gave the Falcons a 20-14 advantage. Sarah Lazar-St. John (SR/Rose Hill, Kan. ) finished off the match to give the Falcons the 25-20 set win.
Lazar-St. John finished the match with 14 kills while hitting .419. Green added a career-high 13 kills. Raquel Gonzales (SR/Las Cruces, N.M. ) paced the Falcons (9-11, 2-1 KCAC) with 28 assists.
The five aces by Munroe were the most by a Falcon in a single match since 2019.
Shiloh Lively and Brooke Winquist led the Panthers with 11 kills, and Darby Wright had a match-high 34 assists.
The Falcons travel to Lindsborg to take on Bethany College on Oct. 6, before returning home for the next four matches.
