Rebisco absorbed another blowout loss in the 2021 Asian Club Volleyball Championships as it bowed to Supreme Chonburi on Saturday, October 2 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The powerhouse Thai club exerted masterclass over Rebisco with a straight-set win, 25-11, 25-16, 25-16, in the preliminary round of the women’s tournament.

Supreme, which is reinforced by 37-year-old, 10-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Pleumjit Thinkaow, shoots to the top of Pool B with a second straight win, while Rebisco stays at the bottom with two losses.

Despite the health clearance of four Rebisco stars Aby Maraño, Eya Laure, Dindin-Santiago Manabat, and Ivy Lacsina, Braziilan coach Jorge Souza de Brito only fielded the latter and kept the young rotation.

Rebisco continued to struggle in the tournament, committing a total of 26 errors against the two-time Asian Championship titlist.

The Thais shocked the young squad as it cruised to a 24-8 score right in the opening set. Veterans Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron combined to save three set points before Supreme took the first set.

Rebisco shook off the first-frame drubbing and came out stronger in the second set as it managed to get within one from Supreme, 14-15. However, the more experienced squad staged a 7-0 run that propelled it to a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Philippine club showed signs of hope when it took a four-point lead over the Pink Dolphins, but Supreme remained in control of the game and made another 6-1 run that virtually sealed the win.

Rebisco hopes to secure its first victory of the tournament against Iran’s Saipa Tehran on Sunday, October 3, 7 pm, Philippine time. – Rappler.com
