[Volleyball] Women's Volleyball Opens Season with Sweep over Columbia
LAURINBURG, N.C. – The 2020 SAU Women's Volleyball team opened their season with a 3-set win over AAC foe, Columbia College (25-20, 25-23, 25-18).

Set 1: The Knights got off to a hot start with a score of 10-4 over the Fighting Koalas and never looked back as they forced 10 errors on Columbia College in the set. Haley Ferris and Ashley McGugan led the way for the Knights in the set with 3 kills each.
Set 2: The second set was point for point until the Fighting Koalas went on a 4-point run to take the 9-5 lead. St. Andrews bounced back to tie the match at 12-12 and continued to go back and forth with Columbia College until the Knights broke free at 18-18, going on a 4-point run. A kill by Kylie Winchell assisted by Carmen Wright won the set for the Knights with a score of 25-23.
Set 3: The Knights built off their momentum to come out on a 4-0 lead over Columbia and extending the lead to 7 points at 11-4 after back-to-back kills from Kandon Luquer in set 3. St. Andrews' offense was unstoppable in the 3rd set as they went on a 5-point run at 14-8 to make the score 19-8. Columbia worked their way back into the set as they were able to land 18 points before the Knights secured the sweep with a score of 25-18.
Knights Leaders:
Freshman Haley Ferris led the Knights in attacks with 9, while also recording a solo block and two block assists.
Abigail Ives recorded 7 kills and 12 assists, while Kandon Luquer recorded 6 kills for the Knights.
The Knights were led in assists by Carmen Wright with 18 and also tallied 6 digs.
St. Andrews defense was carried by Karina Lozada as she collected 24 of the team's total 46 digs.
