[Volleyball] Shaelyn Martin named as Third Team NAIA All-American

0 12

Shaelyn Martin (SR/Salina, Kan.) wasn't ready to retire from competition after her four-year college basketball career ended at Kansas State.

Martin was a basketball and volleyball standout at Salina Central High School and had numerous options to play both sports at the collegiate level.

She chose basketball, but never lost to her love of volleyball. With a semester of eligibility remaining, Martin contacted Kansas Wesleyan volleyball coach Fred Aubuchon about finishing her career with the Coyotes this fall.

Martin joined with the Coyotes and quickly demonstrated she could still compete at a high level. Playing middle hitter, she led the KCAC with 1.5 blocks per set, was second in hitting percentage at .361 and sixth in kills per set with 2.9.

Martin was named First Team All-Kansas Conference in November and earlier this week was named an NAIA Third-Team All-American.

She discussed her return to volleyball, how her basketball skills helped with the transition and her season with the Coyotes during a question and answer session.
