[Volleyball] Volleyball Falcons Fall at Benedictine
Atchison, Kan. – The Benedictine College Ravens won 3-0 over the Friends University Falcons in a non-conference matchup tonight (Oct. 11) in Atchison, Kan.
The Falcons had a chance to jump ahead in the match when kills by Madalyn Swinicki (SR/Wichita, Kan.) and Ashleigh Hunter (JR/Andale, Kan.) helped give Friends a pair of set points at 24-22.
But Fleur Wesselink put in two kills to spark four consecutive points as the Ravens rallied back to win 26-24 to jump on top.
With the second set knotted at 12-12, the Ravens embarked on an 8-2 spurt to take control before closing it out 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead.
Benedictine then scored four consecutive points to snap an 18-18 tie in the third set and went on to finish the win by the same four point margin of 25-21.
Samantha Naake (JR/Woodland, Calif.) led the Falcons with a career-high nine kills and Jana Boston (JR/Newton, Kan.) recorded a team-high 29 assists.
Korianna Tullis (JR/Derby, Kan. ) had a team-best 13 digs for Friends (14-16, 3-4 KCAC).
The Ravens were led by 11 kills each from Sara Rahmanzai and Makenna Ketter. Paxton Throne tallied a match-high 38 assists and Abby Brown led everyone with 16 digs.
The Falcons will next compete in a triangular match at Haskell University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13). Friends will face Harris-Stowe University at 11 and then Haskell at 1 pm.
