0 4

MONTREAT, N.C. – Volleyball's four game win streak was snapped Tuesday night as the Cavs fell 3-1 to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union (18-25, 25-14, 19-25, 21-25). The loss puts the squad at 10-14 (6-6 AAC).

The Cavs came out strong in the first set with the first three points, but slowly lost the lead, and the Bulldogs scored the last six points to take the set. The second set stood pretty evenly until the Cavs took a 9-8 lead, and continued to build on that lead as they finished the set with an 11 point advantage over the Bulldogs. Montreat fought hard in the third and fourth sets, but Union held out to take each of the final sets and the match.

Juliana Hummert led the Cavs' attacking efforts with eight kills and only two errors. Ila Elstein, Taylor Coe, and Taylor Rouse were all close behind with seven kills each. Hummert and Elstein each also contributed a pair of digs. Setters Abby Graham and Bella Huerta posted 16 and 15 assists, respectively. Graham also had eight digs while Huerta had two aces. In the defensive efforts, Vivica Nogueira posted a team-high 19 digs.

Up Next: The Cavs will host a tri-match this Saturday, Oct. 13 featuring Bluefield and Regent. They take on conference opponent Bluefield College at 11 a.m. ET and Regent University at 3 p.m. ET.
