[Men's Volleyball] No. 1 Grand View Sweeps Graceland 3-0

Lamoni, Iowa – No. 1 Grand View took down conference opponent Graceland University 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) to move to 9-1 on the season and 5-0 in the conference.

Grand View started strong defeating the Yellowjackets 25-17 in the first set and carried the momentum into set two and set three to weep the match.

Set One: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 17

The Vikings opened the night gaining an early six-point lead. The Yellowjackets closed the gap, but it wasn't enough to acquire a lead on the No. 1 team in the nation. Tim Johnson ended the first set 25-17 on a kill. The Vikings recorded 15 kills for a .258 hitting percentage while the Yellowjackets recorded seven kills.

Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 23

The second set was a close fought battle between the Heart competitors, but Grand View kept the lead through the whole set to win it 25-23. The Vikings recorded 12 kills while the Yellowjackets recorded 14 kills.

Set Three: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 22

Grand View maintained the lead through the set, but Graceland wasn't far behind. It was not until Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) went on a five-point serving streak after an 18-all tie that the Vikings stretched the lead and won the set on a John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL) kill. Grand View wrapped up the night with 38 teams kills and a 3-0 win over Graceland.

Players of Notice…

Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) led the offense with 12 kills and DJ McInerny (FR/Honolulu, HI) contributed 16 assists on the night. The Vikings defense was led by Felix Chapman as well with nine digs.

The Vikings travel to Kansas City, Missouri this weekend to compete in the Pirate Invitational. No. 1 Grand View will take on No. 6 Park University on Friday, February 16th at 6:00 pm and then will take on Dordt College on Saturday, February 17th at 10:00 am.
