[Men's Volleyball] No. 1 Grand View Remains Undefeated in the Heart with 3-0 Victory Over ...

Des Moines, Iowa – The No. 1 Grand View Vikings move to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the conference with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-13) victory over the No. 7 Missouri Valley Vikings.

Grand View came out victorious in the battle of the Vikings. The two teams competed in a close battle in the first set, but then Grand View extended the lead in the next two sets to take the match 3-0. Grand View dominated at the net tonight recording 11 blocks. 

Ranking No. 2 in the NAIA for blocks per a game and No. 4 in hitting percentage as a team, Grand View did not allow a close 27-25 first set slow them down. 

Set One: Grand View University 27 | Missouri Valley College 25

Grand View closely trailed Missouri Valley through the first set until GV tied the game up at 23. The two teams swapped leads two times before Grand View had the one-point lead and John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL) finished the battle on a service ace. GV recorded 15 team kills while MVC recorded 14 team kills.

Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 21

GV kicked it into gear going on a five-point streak towards the end of the set to help them win the set 25-21. Grand View recorded another 13 team kills for a .333 hitting percentage while MVC recorded 14 team kills for a .135 hitting percentage.  

Set Three: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 13

The two teams went point for point until Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) broke the six-all tie with a block. Grand View rolled on to defeat the Vikings of Missouri Valley by 12 points. GV logged 11 team kills for a .318 hitting percentage while MVC had six team kills.

Players of Notice…

John Chamone led the Viking offense with 13 kills, Tim Johnson documented 11 kills, and Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) contributed 26 assists on the night.

Raphael Seabra (JR/Curitiba, Brazil) and Felix Chapman each had six digs for the defense.

Grand View will travel to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland University this Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 pm.
