[Men's Volleyball] Bees get two top-five wins at Molten Invitational

St. Ambrose finished a perfect 3-0 at the Molten Invitational hosted by Grand View Thursday and Friday. Included in the wins were two victories over top-five opponents.

The first came Thursday night when the Bees took down No. 4 Ottawa (Kan.) in five sets. Friday, SAU defeated No. 5 Culver-Stockton 3-1 before completing the tournament with a four-set win over Morningside.

The wins get St. Ambrose to 5-3 overall on the year.

The Bees nearly let one slip away against Ottawa. After building a two-sets-to-none lead, St. Ambrose survived 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 19-25, 15-12.

A back-and-forth fifth set found SAU trailing 11-10 late. Spencer Lanig tied things up with his seventh kill of the match and Scott MacGillis followed with a kill for a 12-11 lead. After the Braves pulled even, Zach Schmidt and MacGillis put down kills for a 14-12 lead. Schmidt and MacGillis closed things out with a block.

Jaylen Clark had 20 kills while MacGillis finished with 18 and nine digs. Levi Vermuelen collected nine. Austin Royer led all players with 54 assists and picked up eight digs. Riley Anderson had a match-high 14 digs.
