Racing in Texas

Swim: I had a pretty good non wetsuit swim. I swam with a group and I was 4 minutes back of the lead swimmer Andy Potts.
Bike: I rode the 12 miles with Lionel Sanders and ended up splitting a 2:04.
Run: I felt good off the bike and I was running with a group. Then the group of us was directed off course when ended our day short with a DNF. Explained in more detail here: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Interview/No_crying_over_spilt_milk_in_Texas_5040.html
Swim: I swam solo (also non wetsuit) almost the whole way and swam was about 11 minutes back from the lead swimmer. Not my best swim.
Bike: I rode a 4:26 but didn't feel good. My watts were 30 lower than what I should have pushed.
Run: I also felt off on the run. After 9 miles of feeling flat I mentally made a switch and tried pushing it. I ended up passing Ben Hoffman the last mile to finish 7th.
What I learned: To never to a taper again. Sometimes we have to mix things up a little bit in order to take a step forward. Doing a 2 week taper is personally not right for me so lesson learn.
A big thanks to a few key sponsors as I was the 2nd American across the line at the Ironman North America Championships: Xendurance, Falco Bikes and Skechers.
