Round up, 21 September
Friday and Saturday gave Deal Tri runners the chance to experience 3 seasons in 48 hours this week!
Starting with parkrun on Saturday morning, weather meant the 30 Dealies at Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun and the 3 at Dover Waterfront, finished their 5k runs fully hydrated by rain! Towards Thanet, Sharon Taylor, Mark Baker and Junior member Macy enjoyed sunnier aspects at Margate and Pegwell Bay.
On Wednesday, 23 runners attended the weekly track/speed session at the Duke of York School, led by Kev Brown, with a special guest of a globetrotting boomerang in the care of endurance runner Lee Gavin! (Look for 10 Boomerangs South Beach Fremantle for details).
Jane Wisbey and Abbie Kirkham are training for a couple of marathons quite soon and got 2 big training runs done, starting with stunning sunrise, then headwind, thunder and lightning. Good for a bit of extra speed!
Friday was travel day though, for Elisa Ellis, Jenny Rayment and Anita Pollard, who are running the Berlin marathon on Sunday. Each one has their own objective, having laid down quality training over recent months so they get the victory lap on the day. Enjoy it, Jen, Elisa and Anita.
This is just a small snapshot of the training, social runs and events that are happening this weekend – with over 300 members and 4 sports, there’s a lot going on!
Coming up for members is the 7 match Kent Fitness League (winter cross country), the 5 mile handicap race (runners set off at staggered times so in theory they all finish together to make it competitive!), and the public Deal Castle 5 miler at the end of November.
