OPAP Marathon to take over Limassol

0 9

With the Paphos Marathon and the Ayia Napa triathlon this past weekend, there is no rest for the wicked with another marathon coming up – The OPAP Marathon in Limassol will be staged this coming weekend cutting through the town centre. A well-established event that is in its 13th year, the marathon is the largest sports event in Cyprus, featuring six races and four parallel events. This year an estimated of 15,000 runners are expected to head along the bright Mediterranean coastline of Limassol.

The six different races to be staged as part of the marathon event are: a half marathon; the standard marathon race, for which registration costs €60; the Petrolina 10K Energy race which costs €30; the 5K city race also €30; the PrimeTel 5K corporate race for which teams sign up for €300; and the Andrey and Julia Dashin’s Foundation Youth Race. Unlike the other races, the Youth Race is free and is split into age categories: six to nine years old, ten to thirteen and fourteen to sixteen.

The flat, fast and coastal routes guarantee a first-class running experience for the thousands of local and international runners as well as a perfect setting to set and break new personal bests. An optimal choice for amateurs, semi-professional and professional runners, the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO along with the welcoming vibe of Limassol, promise to be an exemplary marathon and an alternative way to spend the weekend, celebrating life and health. All races set off from Molos in Limassol, some as early as 7.30am with others at 11am.

But it’s not just running that this marathon is about as the event’s slogan says it’s “more than a race”.

The first parallel event to take place is a Running Community Forum on Thursday featuring international personalities from the world of running, who’ll share their stories of what running is and what it means to them.

Then on the first day of the marathon as the first set of runners head off, Molos will turn into the Limassol Marathon Village and host fitness classes, live music by ANT1 radio and offer nutrition advice. Later on in the day at 5pm, there will be a pasta party. “Eat pasta, run fasta” is the motto of the event as pasta dishes will be shared with a casual discussion about the upcoming race.

Finally, on Sunday an all-day long party will take place at Guaba Beach bar starting from 8am all the way until midnight. Live music from Minus One and Lopodites will kick start the evening session before the DJs take over.
