[Tennis] SDC Tennis Floods Postseason Awards Lists

SANTEE, Calif. – The SDC men's and women's tennis teams had an outstanding year on the court and the ITA and NAIA noticed.

The Hawks flooded the postseason awards from both associations including Coach and Assistant Coaches of the year, as well as NAIA First Team All-Americans.

Both teams made it to the NAIA National Championships, but lasted shorter than expected as the men's team went 1-1 and the women's team dropped their only match. But with all of that, the Hawks were rewarded for their play all season.

Brittany Augustine was named to the NAIA First Team All-American in just her first season with the team. Augustine went undefeated in conference play in both singles and doubles. She had an overall record of 14-1 in singles and 13-2 in doubles, earning her national rankings of No. 4 in singles and No. 6 in doubles. She was named the GSAC Conference Player of the Month for March. She was also named the ITA Player to Watch for the 2017-18 season.

Assistant Coach Jim Bodor was named was named the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. Bodor played a key role in San Diego Christian College going undefeated in conference play in 2017. He is supportive and aware of his players, and exhibits genuine engagement in their matches.

Head Coach Priscilla Jensen was named ITA West Coach of the Year on the women's side. She guided the women's team to their best national ranking in school history and won their first conference regular season and conference titles. The appearance to the NAIA National Championships was also the first in program history.

Heather Borsos won the ITA West Senior Player of the Year and the rest of her teammates earned the ITA Community Service Award for the West region in 2017.

On the men's side, Leonardo Urquidi was awarded with an NAIA Second-Team All-American selection. This is the third time Urquidi has earned the award on the national level. Urquidi was also named as the ITA Senior Player of the Year for the western region. . Aliaksandr Meliuk earned NAIA Honorable mention in just his first year at SDC. He also earned the ITA Player to Watch award in the Western region for the 2017-18 season.

Both teams finished the year ranked in the top 15. The women's team completed a record-breaking year with a 15-4 record and a national ranking of No. 8. The men's team completed the year 7-11 overall and being ranked No. 13 in the nation.
