The women’s field at the 2017 French Open is wide open, and we’ve got the full schedule, results, and more.

In recent years, tennis has looked like a one-man and one-woman sport, with Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams clearly dominating the rest of the field. But with the former hitting a slump over the past several months and the latter taking some time off for her pregnancy, the field at the 2017 French Open is wide open.

On the women’s side, defending champion Garbine Muguruza is in the fold, but Simona Halep has been favored by many experts to win her first-ever Grand Slam. Italian Open champion, Elina Svitolina, is also a popular pick to take the crown at Roland Garros.

On Sunday, the competition will get underway, and it will do so without Williams and another big name in Maria Sharapova. Due to a doping violation that saw her banned, she did not make it into qualifying or the wild card. Sharapova is a two-time winner, and Williams is the most dominant woman in the sport’s history.

Viewing information

This year marks the 35th consecutive year that NBC will carry coverage of the French Open in the United States. The finals and some semifinals will be broadcast by NBC and NBCSN, but the bulk of early-round coverage will be carried by the Tennis Channel.
