[Tennis] WHAC Teams Headed to NAIA Tennis Nationals
MOBILE, Ala. - Four Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tennis teams qualified for the 2017 NAIA Men's and Women's Tennis National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center May 16-20. The single elimination tournaments begin with eight first-round matchups on May 16. The top-eight seeds receive a first-round bye.
For the men, UNOH earned the WHAC's automatic berth by winning the conference tournament. It's the fifth championship appearance for the fourth-seeded Racers, who get a bye in the first round. Lawrence Tech was awarded an at-large bid for its first national tournament. The Blue Devils are seeded at No. 21. Defending national champion Georgia Gwinnett is the top seed.
UNOH and Davenport both earned berths to the women's tournament Eighth-seeded UNOH got the league's automatic berth for their fifth trip and get a first-round bye. Davenport is seeded at No. 17 and is making its fourth appearance. Defending national champion Georgia Gwinnet is seeded first with a 22-0 record.
