[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Defeats HIU to Advance to the GSAC Semifinals
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – It wasn't pretty, but the SDC men's tennis team regrouped and were able to defeat Hope International in the quarterfinals of the GSAC Tournament 5-3 Tuesday.
The Hawks fell 2-1 after doubles play but won enough matches in singles play to clinch the victory and advance to the semifinals. SDC will face Westmont Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Leonardo Urquidi and Fabian Daniel were the first ones finished at No. 3 Doubles giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Royals, however, took the next two doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead.
Nick Bell got things started in singles play for SDC defeating Avi Bami in No. 6 Singles 6-1, 6-4. Jan-Erik Isermann won his No. 4 Singles match 6-3, 6-1 to give the Hawks the lead back at 3-2. After Urquidi fell at No. 1 Singles, Alessandro Moriano won in straight sets at No. 3 Singles before Daniel closed it out in No. 5 Singles 6-3, 6-3 as the Hawks advanced.
In the tournament, the team first to five points automatically clinches the match and all other unfinished sets are halted.
