Taylor Fritz Has ‘No Chance’ Without Carlos Alcaraz Injury, Says Former American Tennis Pro

0 9

Former American tennis pro Sam Querrey argues Taylor Fritz has "no chance" against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, unless Alcaraz gets injured.

"No chance. Unless Carlos has some type of injury during the match, I give Taylor no chance," Querrey said. "I hate to say it, I hate to say it. Carlos is too good right now."

Querrey, who achieved a career high ATP rank of 11, made the comments while hosting the Nothing Major Show with fellow former American tennis pro John Isner.

"I hope Taylor proves me wrong," Querrey added.

Isner, who achieved an ATP career high of eighth, said: "I disagree."

Fritz, who's currently ranked fifth in ATP's standings, has his work cutout for him since Alcaraz is second only to Italian Jannik Sinner

The two will be playing center court first thing in the morning July 11.

Fritz' performance against Russian Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals showed he still has at least some conviction after losing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon four years ago.

"Obviously having played the quarterfinals here twice and lost in five, twice, I don't think I could have taken another one," Fritz said in an on-court interview after the match. "So I'm happy. I'm really happy I'm going to get to play the semis here."

He also said getting to the quarterfinals doesn't feel like "such a big deal" anymore in a post-match news conference, adding he thinks that allows him to be more present in the moment and play his best tennis.

"I also really do think I'm a much better tennis player than I was a year ago or even two years ago," he added. "I think right now I'm playing at a much higher level in tennis than I was."

Fritz' career record is 309-201 with a record of 25-11 so far this year.

Alcaraz' career record is 251-61 with a record of 42-5 so far this year.
