Star Tennis Player Alexander Zverev Has Embarrassing Incident Mid-Match
Professional tennis takes a lot of exertion. Normally, this isn't a problem for the players because they are at peak fitness levels.
But sometimes even top athletes get sick.
And that's just what happened to one professional tennis player in the middle of a match.
It's not that uncommon, as it turns out. However, this time it was German tennis pro Alexander Zverev's turn to throw up during a match.
According to ESPN, the incident occurred at the Halle Open on June 20.
He "requested a toilet break to throw up and bolted down the tunnel" and did not look well at first when he returned, gasping and "bending over in exhaustion," ESPN reported.
"I felt fine before the match. Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I felt really, really bad. I felt ill, went to throw up and then 15 minutes later I felt OK again," he said later, ESPN reported, adding that he ended up winning the match.
However, he's not the first player to vomit during a match - not by a longshot.
Frances Tiafoe "threw up during his first-round match at the Australian Open" in 2025, but he went on to win his match, according to NBC. He blamed it on being overly hydrated.
Then there's Jack Draper. In 2024, the British player "vomited several times on the court during play," Bergen Record reported.
In May, tennis player Peyton Stearns threw up at the Italian Open while playing against Naomi Osaka.
In 2024, Tomas Etcheverry threw up on court during a professional tennis match at the U.S. Open. So, yes, its happened a lot.
