Women’s tennis concludes season with close loss in Super Regional battle against Oklahoma State

Stanford’s women’s tennis season came to a close on Saturday with a narrow 4-3 loss to Oklahoma State in the NCAA Super Regionals, marking the program’s 43rd consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance. Despite a resilient effort, the No. 25 Cardinal fell short in the decisive moments of a tightly contested match in Stillwater, Oklahoma. 

This season was a milestone for the Cardinal, as it was the first under the leadership of head coach Frankie Brennan. The team finished with a solid 17-9 record; although they didn’t advance to the quarterfinals for the 40th time, the Cardinal’s consistent postseason presence underscores the program’s sustained successes. 

Stanford had to rally from behind early in the match after dropping the doubles point on Courts 1 and 3, but solid singles performances kept their chances alive. Freshman Valerie Glozman, an All-American in her first season at Stanford, defeated No. 84 Anastasiya Komar 7-5, 6-2 to tie the match. Glozman completed her debut year with a 32-5 overall record. 

Senior Connie Ma — another Cardinal All-American — contributed to the team’s momentum with a straight-set win, tying up the overall team score at 2-2. Ma’s outstanding four-year career finished with a 131-28 overall record. 

Valencia Xu, another senior, then edged out Kylie Collins in a dramatic comeback, winning 7-5, 6-3 on Court 4. After trailing 5-2 in the first set, Xu won five games in a row to level the match and later persevered to secure the point for Stanford. 

However, the Cardinal’s efforts ultimately fell short in matches on the final two courts, both decided in three sets with Oklahoma State prevailing. The most decorated program in college history, Stanford has won 20 of the possible 43 NCAA championships and will be returning in the fall for a new season and aNOTHER chance at an NCAA victory.
