Sania Mirza opens up on MOVIE based on her life and marriage to Shoaib Malik, here’s what tennis legend said…
India tennis legend Sania Mirza’s professional and personal life has been a rollercoaster ride. The former world No. 1 doubles player retired from professional tennis back in 2023 but just a year later he marriage with former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik ended unceremoniously.
Sania and Shoaib Malik had got married in 2010 and have a song together – Izhaan – born in 2018. The Indian star shuttles between Dubai and Hyderabad after her divorce from Shoaib, who went on to marry Pakistan TV actress Sana Javed.
As Sania Mirza began 2025 with a fresh outlook, the tennis player was asked about the possibility of having a biopic made on her life, including marriage to Shoaib Malik, in Bollywood in the near future. Sania revealed that she has no objection in getting his life projected on the silver screen but film producers are yet to show any interest in the project.
“A biopic has been on the cards, a lot of people have been talking about it. But I haven’t had offers of late, unless my managers have not told me about any!” Sania Mirza was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Sania is currently managing her tennis academies but didn’t stop her from ringing in the New Year with her ‘forever date’, as she captioned her picture with her six-year-old son, lovingly called ‘Izzu’. “No matter what I do in my life, my son Izhaan is always going to be my priority. Even amongst my professional commitments, he will remain that. That doesn’t mean I don’t do other things. I try to revolve my stuff around Izhaan as much as I can,” says the 38-year-old, on her life as a single mother.
“I also try to not leave him too much, at max maybe one-two nights if I have to travel for work. All of it works itself out. I try to find a balance,” she added.
Sania Mirza wanted Deepika Padukone or Parineeti Chopra to play her in biopic
A few years back, Sania had appeared on a chat show named ‘Yaaron Ki Baraat’ hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Khan. She was accompanied by her good friend and actress Parineeti Chopra on the show.
On which Bollywood star should reprise the role of tennis legend, Sania had said, “I was asked if a biopic is made on me, who should play my role. I took Pari’s name and I had taken a couple of more names. I said Deepika (Padukone) and her actually. So, I jokingly stated that Deepika is busy because everyone wants her (to do a biopic).”
Sports biopics have been very popular in Bollywood with late Sushant Singh-starrer ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ turning into a big hit. Priyanka Chopra reprised the role of Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom in the movie ‘Mary Kom’ which had released in 2014.
